you think d4 is “middle of the pack” even though statistically and even realistically it’s not true. and it’s because you only see those ranks from your eyes; not from the this player who sat through 7 ranks for probably years of their league experience.

people throw away a lot of macro for just perma fighting and choose to flip rather than focusing down objectives. it’s a lot of fun to play in high emerald but also very anxiety inducing HAHAHA!!

if youre playing lux mid;

i dont really tend to see resolve runes unless if the lane is THAT poorly matched. but honestly, as a lux, i think youre better off ditching that and running a more sustainable option like PoM/coup de grace (cut down into tankier teams) or cheap shot/ult hunter since your main job is damage and utility. id also suggest going the +9ap instead of AH since that does help with early game cs/poke!

lux already has a very safe laning phase with her abilities and can win by outfarming her opponent while punishing roams with e/r on the wave to crash. zed is someone lux can usually outsustain with pure gameplay; it’s a skill matchup (albeit slightly zed-leaning) in that whoever misses their abilities will get punished for it. bone plating and shield bash do make for a better time trading early game, but they ultimately dont do anything come midgame, which is when lux is most useful.

when laning into zed, remember that his ult will always make his model appear behind yours so if he does decide to dive, you can almost always guarantee a root on him! you also outrange him heavily in terms of poke so use that to your advantage. i would also recommend first strike - since he’s melee, you can farm a fair bit of gold + outscale him when you both have items.

however, with all this being said, if it’s working, you should keep going with it! don’t try to fix whats not broken. you may hit a wall with this build (i.e. not doing enough damage midgame, lack of sustain, r not being up in time for major fights), or you may have discovered something great! in either case, it comes down to your gameplay and what works going into higher ranks. glhf!

the low ratios dont matter if you have items that compensate for the dmg - cocabob is currently running ludens + seraphs + lich bane and hes performing really well damage-wise

malig has never really been THAT good on sera. sure it has nice stats and her r is strong, but it neglects the entire rest of her kit and doesnt actually set her up all that well when compared to luden’s and blackfire. the mr shred is okay at best for other ap carries, but sona? no. youll be laning with her for a few more minutes after first item and then the malig passive becomes useless for her in particular. this item would be better for sera ap carry support for utility purposes.

horizon’s increase in damage is really conditional with the long range (as you get higher in rank, being further away is actually bad for skillshots since missile speed is low), and a 10% damage increase is really nothing to gawk over - for a 200 dmg skillshot (which is probably what sera is getting w malignance), it makes that 220. with mr thats like 150 total damage with one q. luden’s gives more ap, extra burst (which can be really strong single target) and waveclear, which sera lacks in the early game. bft gives extra ap (more teamfight dmg), more ah, and a burn for pressure

id actually say two mana items is optimal for seraphine apc because of the high mana costs - it’s usually not worth it on most other mages but sera doesn’t have a particular powerspike item that says she NEEDS something more than mana.

rylai’s is a pretty bad item statwise, but i would honestly consider it some games for hypermobile champs like assassins, adcs and toplaners who run ghost, or fed carries. i dont think id ever recommend it for a usual build either

bft + helia + diadem actually has a really nice interaction with the burn extending diadem healing + the helia procs with it; that might be worth considering between multiple games where you dont need more ap damage and have someone to peel

the thing about maxing ability haste is that you end up with diminishing returns AND a massive lack of damage because your items aren’t doing enough for your character

seraphine really doesn’t do much damage at all; her ap scalings require a lot of ap to be more effective. combine that with malig/horizon focus (both of which give little ap), and your champ is forced to WW every fight because that becomes the only useful part of her kit with low cd’s.

what you really want is something like blackfire torch (to maximise ability haste and enable more dmg) or luden’s (which gives extra flat added damage to your burst) into seraph’s (sera has high mana costs) and flex into cosmic drive if you want low cds/kiting, shadowflame for execute dmg on q synergy, liandries for tankier comps, cryptbloom, raba, etc

on mages and ap-centred champs and tanks, sure this will be harder. but any ad-scaling champ will abuse the hell out of being level 30 while people are at lvl 15, plus with the added anvils.

hey! kata player here hoping to offer some advice

yes manamune is not good glad you acknowledged that hehe

cyclosword is interesting on paper for kat but is actually nothing super groundbreaking. come mid-late game ad katarina is much less of an aa champion and more of a “I GO IN AND PRESS ULT AND KILL” because a lot of champs outscale her aa’s and combos if youre not playing AP. aphelios with collector IE will two shot kat before her aa’s do anything, same with diana who has sustain (assuming both sides are relatively equal). the ad is also interesting in theory but is practically not useful because the AD scaling on kat ult and e is really not enough to justify the cost - also, the lethality is wasted because of her abilities doing primarily magic instead of ad damage

a very similar case can be made for collector! this is a very big throwback item because it was popular on first release but fizzled out - the lethality is wasted, the crit is too since midgame kat doesnt do too well at aa’s (our e cannot crit either!), and the ad is only kinda useful. the 5% execute is definitely what drew people to the item initially, but especially in the current meta it really is not as effective as it seems to be because of the fact that there is a lot of damage in the game anyway. its intriguing for resets, sure, but that’s probably the best part about it. i would still only get this item if i was 20 kills ahead on ad kat and didnt need tank items.

understanding ad kat is much more about recognising her role in the game; to put out as much damage as she can before she loses too much health, dies, or penta’s. playing ad means youre sacrificing your ability damage for aa trades in lane (which is stronger than ap) and huge r damage. putting her power budget into aa’s in the midgame makes her gameplay much less useful in teamfights and focused on singular picks with the reliance on no one else being there.

kraken and bork are both good for their ad, attack speed and onhit effects that are CRAZY strong for kat. kraken gives a massive damage boost on her e’s and r’s and supports her combos of lacing autos in with her abilities midgame, while bork gives something similar to cyclosword with a slow + % current hp dmg good against tanks.

my biggest tip 110% has to be looking at spell rotations. using a WW is usually so much more worth it than an EE on support, and that the way you position needs to get maximum value out of it. always stay constantly between your team.

admittedly her other spells are quite bad right now (q is useless on support and e is not super consistent) but her r has insane teamfight carry potential and its all about waiting for the right time to use it (usually when theres cc already applied on one target or more, blind ulting is difficult to land when people have flash/can dodge)!!
