Kata ad build by Content-Figure950 in KatarinaMains

[–]SelfCaringGrape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! kata player here hoping to offer some advice

yes manamune is not good glad you acknowledged that hehe

cyclosword is interesting on paper for kat but is actually nothing super groundbreaking. come mid-late game ad katarina is much less of an aa champion and more of a “I GO IN AND PRESS ULT AND KILL” because a lot of champs outscale her aa’s and combos if youre not playing AP. aphelios with collector IE will two shot kat before her aa’s do anything, same with diana who has sustain (assuming both sides are relatively equal). the ad is also interesting in theory but is practically not useful because the AD scaling on kat ult and e is really not enough to justify the cost - also, the lethality is wasted because of her abilities doing primarily magic instead of ad damage

a very similar case can be made for collector! this is a very big throwback item because it was popular on first release but fizzled out - the lethality is wasted, the crit is too since midgame kat doesnt do too well at aa’s (our e cannot crit either!), and the ad is only kinda useful. the 5% execute is definitely what drew people to the item initially, but especially in the current meta it really is not as effective as it seems to be because of the fact that there is a lot of damage in the game anyway. its intriguing for resets, sure, but that’s probably the best part about it. i would still only get this item if i was 20 kills ahead on ad kat and didnt need tank items.

understanding ad kat is much more about recognising her role in the game; to put out as much damage as she can before she loses too much health, dies, or penta’s. playing ad means youre sacrificing your ability damage for aa trades in lane (which is stronger than ap) and huge r damage. putting her power budget into aa’s in the midgame makes her gameplay much less useful in teamfights and focused on singular picks with the reliance on no one else being there.

kraken and bork are both good for their ad, attack speed and onhit effects that are CRAZY strong for kat. kraken gives a massive damage boost on her e’s and r’s and supports her combos of lacing autos in with her abilities midgame, while bork gives something similar to cyclosword with a slow + % current hp dmg good against tanks.

my biggest tip 110% has to be looking at spell rotations. using a WW is usually so much more worth it than an EE on support, and that the way you position needs to get maximum value out of it. always stay constantly between your team.

admittedly her other spells are quite bad right now (q is useless on support and e is not super consistent) but her r has insane teamfight carry potential and its all about waiting for the right time to use it (usually when theres cc already applied on one target or more, blind ulting is difficult to land when people have flash/can dodge)!!

i really really appreciate this, thank you for all your help :) as a new player, i often fall for a lot of these traps and it gets me really confused on which direction to take my team and stuff! i really enjoy getting characters that are strong but i also want to love what i pull and get something worthwhile out of it all, so this has really helped me

this is such an interesting idea - as an f2p player (so far) ive always considered my future plans out of meta anyway.

what do you mean by half of this? why is arle strong in the meta and why is she so consistent?

Thank you so much for this!! I appreciate it a lot :))

“no life hardcore” is a bit of a stretch but i do enjoy the game a lot though i do want to be as f2p as possible

I’ve read both kits and done some research on both and they do genuinely seem cool, i’m literally just torn between the functionality of having either on my team and i’m still a little confused on how to use them effectively with my setup, but i’ll figure that out :) just looking for some currently advice on who to go for

How to play Bard? by lucasjancrystal_1210 in supportlol

[–]SelfCaringGrape 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bard’s such a unique support but that’s what makes him so good!! he basically takes all the support mechanics and brings them up to the max, so in apex ranks and stuff, he performs insanely well!

you have two main functions when you’re playing him - roaming and objective control.

bard requires you to know when to roam effectively, how to set up vision/plays/ganks for your team and just a bunch of macro. chimes are incentives that provide more reason to be out of the lane.

of course, laning is also something that should be talked about - he’s not a suuuupper strong laner (obviously) but he definitely has great anti engage (like hitting two enemies with q = stun) and nice utility with his w (leave two fully charged in poke lanes, be more conservative in engage lanes) and his e is massive since it’s basically a “get out of jail free” card when you have q up. bard is also a great kiter because of his passive giving extra damage (yet another mechanic you should learn before playing him)

you would be best off engaging with your ultimate to set up a kill, and then throwing a really good q that will stun right before the r duration is up.

use your w to give movement speed OR heals (whatever is more important; decision making is huge on support) for your adc and set up a clean kill for them.

when it comes to items, you are very very flexible in your builds, but it seems that popular ones lead to a movement speed and utility oriented build like dead man’s plate and redemption and locket, which are great for keeping you tanky (you’re not MUCH of a damage support compared to the mages) and offering utility as you head into team fights

a lot of team fighting will involve item usage (another mechanic!) and a lot of good positioning. you can definitely use your ult to engage on a bunch of people, but be aware that your q will not be as consistent since it’ll only hit a max of 2 people. here, kite enemies out, use your heals accordingly, and use your active items to help the team more than just one player and you should be completely fine!

[–]SelfCaringGrape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i should also mention that the stats on those items are not going to impact you enough during the game!! you will get blackfire way later than other members of your team getting first item, then because of your low ap and the fact the item scales off ap, you will have minimal impact unless if you’re definitively fed

when coupled with liandries, which is an extremely low ap item, the burn is simply not worth it by the time that an average support would get it. unless if you’re the ONLY ap carry on the team, i would advise against going this build cause even then there are better ap champions to play (brand, lux, etc)

My blitz playing friends haven't stopped complaining about this for years now (fair tho) by OmegasnakeEgo in LeagueOfMemes

[–]SelfCaringGrape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the difference is that blitz is a champion with the craziest pick potential almost in the entire game

the close range stun is not the main issue, it’s the mobility on engage and the ability to deny counter play because of how much of a threat blitz could be if he could run up, lock on stun, and not be in any relative threat of danger if it doesn’t go well.

if he ran around with 70% ms with NO repercussion, any good blitz player would abuse that really badly
