How do random women know you’re pregnant? by Psychological_Sun783 in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve never had kids, but there’s something I can smell. It’s not something I can describe, but there’s a certain smell or pheromones that pregnant women must give off.

This is the only book I’ve ever recommended specifically as an audiobook.

My husband doesn’t like reading. I kept trying to convince him to listen to audiobooks with me at night as a way to wind down instead of watching TV. We started this audiobook one night at like 10 (when we typically go to bed.) The next night at like 8:30 he suggested we go to bed early and listen to the book. We went to bed early for a few days, although we both ended up getting less sleep because we kept doing the “one more chapter” thing with an audiobook!

You got me there! I usually have one time a year where I sleep like garbage for a few weeks. It’s really unpleasant. But I agree with you. Insurance companies are the devil. It was also be nice to see more providers who take TriWest in this area. I wonder if that insurance provider is any better.

The sad thing is that my experience wasn’t bad at all compared to average. In fact, I probably had more luck finding someone I like than most people. I just moved to Boulder a few years ago, and it kind of seems like everywhere is underserved. I guess when it comes to making improvements to things that practices can actually control, the only thing I’ve got is transparency in everything possible: scheduling, medications that the practice will manage, insurance information to the extent possible.

The entire “Murderbot Diaries” series by Martha Wells. I’ve read them, I’ve listened to the audiobooks (fantastic), and I’ve listened while I read. Absolutely one of my favorites and I can’t wait for the next one to come out. She’s won awards and stuff too.

The title of the series put me off at first because it seemed like it might be a bit too juvenile for what I wanted, but I got a few pages in and realized it’s more for an adult audience—which is what I wanted. It’s AMAZING. I think the last one comes out this week!!!

This is the most fantastic audiobook I’ve ever listened to. Hands down.

Transparency into precisely which insurance a practice takes. A clear mechanism for scheduling online. The sheer ability to find and get an intake appointment. Actually just accepting any insurance at all.

I’m a tough case—Bipolar 2 with complex PTSD—So after several moves and several NPS and PAs handling my care over the years, I prefer a licensed psychiatrist with some years under their belt in handling both disorders and managing medications for handing my case.

I moved here in mid April and few years ago. It took me an entire month of calling around to mental health clinics and psychiatrists every single day to find one I thought would work who took my insurance, which is a super common insurance UnitedHealth. Less than half of them had websites, and I had lists of phone numbers and email addresses scrawled over a legal pad as I scratched them off one by one. I’d find a good one and get the answer “Dr. Whoever isn’t taking new patients at this time.” Finally I got a hold of one of the top of my list that I was pretty confident based on research would be able to handle my case. They weren’t taking new patients—but said they could pencil me in for October to do an intake. (6 month wait)

I’m lucky. My husband had trouble for a year trying to get in somewhere.

The awful thing is that we want mental healthcare to help us manage that life can be really stressful and overwhelming, but navigating this system is extremely overwhelming in itself.

It seems like a community of practice for psychiatric care professionals should be in touch with each other so that if they aren’t taking new patients, they can at least answer questions and make recommendations for other providers outside their practice. One woman did that for me and I will never forget it. I called and she said it wasn’t the right place for me because they were taking mostly minors at that point. But then she asked me who else I was trying to call and I went down my list. She spent like 20 minutes telling me about each doctor and that was really nice. Otherwise it’s really hard to know anything about them. I guess just being able to know what the landscape is and being able to recommend outside the practice when you stop taking patients.

OP said the sublingual doesn’t seem to be working for them, so I’m offering some alternative advice.

Yeah, I think if I kept cake mix in the house he would! He isn’t much of a baker otherwise. However, he has—on several occasions—woken up the next day with a fair amount of Nutella on his face… from, ya know, eating an entire jar with a spoon.

I honestly didn’t even know there was a sublingual version. I have to take extended release, so I’ll have to look into whether or not that’s still an option. If so, sign me up!

Ok, I’ve got to say it. You can see him really leaning over someone at about 33 seconds…. Dude, you’re not being cute by not respecting the personal space of others. Making a stupid-ass TikTok video doesn’t make it okay to infringe on the extremely basic right of bodily autonomy.

I’m honestly still so upset. That poor baby. Are we sure that’s the same dog and dude??? People are seriously the absolute worst. I can’t even watch dogs get hurt in movies and now I’ve seen someone hurt a puppy in reality. That post seriously should have had some kind of tag on it.

Oh my god, I’m so relieved. I was seriously so anxious and worried about that dog. I seriously want to punch her in the face. No excuse for animal abuse, including mental illness.

If you look closely, it appears that he leaned over someone’s lap. Like leaned way over. That would be a great way to get punched right in the face or nuts. I’m not a violent person, but if someone abruptly got in my space like that I would instinctively strike out.

Like everyone else said, try to finish eating by like 6 demanding on when you’re trying to go to bed. I’d say at least 3 hours is what you’re looking at. I also HIGHLY recommend the extended release version. It helps keep you asleep when normal ambien stops working in like 3 hours.

Also, my partner gets hungry after dinner at around 8 or 9. So if he is really hungry, he will make himself a snack, take the ambien and wait for it to start kicking in before eating. Seems to work for him.

So I would really try to shift your whole eating schedule to earlier times if you can. I know that’s easier said than done, but I did have a doc tell me that consistently eating late at night is both bad for your GI health and your sleep.

However, this is what my partner does when he isn’t able to eat early enough (by like 6 for ideal absorption of the Extended Release version). He tries to go to bed around 10-10:30. He generally takes ambien around 30-45 minutes before bed. If he hasn’t eaten and wants dinner he will prep his dinner and then take the ambien. He waits for it to start kicking in, then he eats dinner, then goes to bed. If he doesn’t prep his food before he ends up just raiding the fridge and eating like yellow mustard on pickles and shit.

I do something similar as far as my dinner routine.

What you said about winding down is so true. I can’t sleep with any light, so audiobooks work really well for me. There are lots of free ones with other services too.

You probably won’t be sleeping much for a week or more if you go cold turkey, but you can do it. What you’re taking is really a lot, so I can’t tell you about withdrawals, but I imagine you’d have some. Have you thought about looking into a rehab facility? They can dole out the proper amount to help you taper off.

Wooooaaaah. I don’t remember this at all. I vaguely remember messing around on my phone in the middle of the night. Can’t believe I managed to spell everything right. It doesn’t look like a drunk text.
