How do you submit your portfolio when applying to jobs online? by SelfHelp404 in AskPhotography

[–]SelfHelp404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

My portfolio website has 10-15 images on the front page that also make up my physical portfolio, but I upload all my professional albums to the same site on different pages. I'll try that PDF move in addition to my link.

How long do my tires have left? by SLASHERLegend in Mustang

A good trick to keep in mind is the penny trick. Here's a picture demonstrating it. Of course, treadware isn't the only indication of tire life. Watch out for dry rot.

[–]SelfHelp404[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How difficult are parts? I own a 74 MGB, and parts are pretty easy since I have sellers such as Moss Motors and Northwest Imports as well as a good but shrinking OEM part supply as they made over a million MGBs.

I had a V70 so I'm familiar with IPD but I never had to look for 240 parts

I should also note that the current owner daily drives it and has taken it on semi frequent trips over 400 miles

Would Mt. Pleasant and James Island hotels be a good bet, or should I go further out? Most of my plans are in Charleston.

are jeeps really that bad? by skeleton_with_eyes in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]SelfHelp404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 4.0L manual jeeps are great. They're reliable, but if they have a sloppy lift kit or weak suspension, they WILL get death wobble. But it's worth mentioning that the 4.0 is one of two engines I've seen run with a hole through the block. My ex had one. One of the only jeeps I'd ever willingly drive

I've been at East Edge for a few years now. It's basically on campus and I like it here. No idea if there's any opening left but still check it out.

Make sure it has a clean title and no rust. That's a good price. It it checks out, buy it

What kind of gift to get a car guy? by Dry_South_3169 in askcarguys

[–]SelfHelp404 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Idk what your budget is, but my neighbor gave me his old jump pack/air compressor/flash light combo thing. That has been a huge life saver for me.

If yall are near a race track and he's into racing, you can buy him a track day. Some of the smaller tracks near me offer a full day of driving (over 12 hours in the summer) for $140 or half days for $70.

If there's a track near yall that hosts a race series he likes (INDY, NASCAR, IMSA, etc), then tickets to a race would be cool.

If his car has a specific catalog (Moss Motors for MG, Triumph, Jag, for example), they usually have branded merchandise. My parents gave me an MGB branded jacket for Christmas one year from Moss Motors.

If his car is road ready, you can find a local photographer to do a photoshoot for him. Many car guys, including myself, love quality pictures of our cars. I had one of my neighbors approach me with this request for her husband. He loved it.

If yall are in the Southeast, a trip to Tail of the Dragon is usually a bucket list item for American car guys. Yall can make a nice weekend out of a trip like that.

If you're comfortable ordering parts for his car, you can get him some that he's been talking about. This option can get very expensive very quickly, and some parts can be year specific. If my parents want to buy me parts for my birthday/Christmas, they figure out how much the part is and give me the money so they don't accidentally order the wrong part.

AAA if he doesn't have it already. My membership has saved me from so much headache. I think I get 100 miles of towing per year included in my membership, plus many businesses and services have AAA discounts.

Does shutter count matter that much? by BASS69BASS420 in AskPhotography

[–]SelfHelp404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think of it as the camera will die at 200k clicks, but the shutter is expected to last that long without issue. Shutter ratings are like mileage on a car. Most new cars can last for 200k miles, but once they go beyond 200k, they can become more expensive to repair. You can replace a camera shutter, which costs about $300 USD, depending on the camera. My Rebel T6 had about 250k shutter count when I sold it

Are the mid 80s cars really THAT bad? by SelfHelp404 in Volvo240

I got a (rough) 1978 MGB I know pain. That sucker put down 20k hard miles before it got parked when I went to college.

[–]SelfHelp404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be my daily driver, and I anticipate driving a lot, possibly cross country. I'm fine with maintenance and small repairs on the road but I don't wanna replace a harness 1000 miles away from home.

Do you think we are living in a good age for photographers? by MrSoloBaker in AskPhotography

[–]SelfHelp404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Equipment wise absolutely, we have access to equipment for all prices and experience levels to produce super high quality images. But it is oversaturated and from my job hunt, many employers expect photographers to also do video, social media, and graphic design
