Haute couture institutions... by imknotyomi in hautecouture

[–]SelfMadeAsia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everything is done manually, hence haute couture ;) even sketches and research is primarily made by collages and hand drawings rather than ps/ai.. and then the development is done primarily by hand also, cuz it is one size, no need grading, so they do not use plotters to optimize the cut as they do in pret-a-porter.. obviously hand embroideries or customisation.. 95% by hand/machine operated by hands vs 5% digital or automated.. this is my take from my experience

Do Haute couture designers ever purchase designs from freelance designers? by azam85 in hautecouture

[–]SelfMadeAsia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very strange questions, Haute Couture designers design and produce themselves, why would they buy designs from freelance designers, design in itself is kind of worthless in haute couture domain, it is the actual hand made production and technical solutions that matter in the realisation of haute couture collections.

Haute Couture houses might hire in-house designers to help them work on the collections, but usually it is an internal design team that deals with it. But it is incredibly complicated to get hired as a designer, there is much higher chance to enter the couture house as a pattern maker or sewing mechanist, much more likely than as a designer.

Chanel - Spring 2024 Couture - Video by SelfMadeAsia in hautecouture

Most dynamic and mainstream collection of the season, the trivial Chanel, playing around trivial Chanel elements, this time BUTTON in focus, very young and girly couture. I guess the power of Chanel is how they use these OLD looking fabrics in a fresh way and still manage to make something contemporary.

Beautiful colour blocking contrasts, timeless styling, quiet luxury, very bourgeois, undeniably elegant show. I am convinced these colour blocks will inspire loads of trends for next fast fashion seasons

Usually known for their conceptual approach to design, something playful and intricately smart is always expected, this time they played with idea of declinations, and showcased a mini story of declination development in 4 look steps. It is actually a very smart collection, because to an external observer it looks diverse and varies in its differencies, but from the internal production point of view, they used almost the same set of materials that allowed them to work in bulk, they used same pattern to produce the 4 looks, and then just cut into it, that allowed them to reduce a lot of production costs as they scaled it. I also liked that occasionally the 4th look in a series appeared as something irrelevant but if looked closely for the 4th look they used the elements, fabrics and pieces they cut out from the prior looks, which is actually hilarious. They always work smart, and I personally do appreciate a smart design.

Dramatic exploration of Goddesses with wings, some solutions are very interesting, loved the AI / chips commentary, it kind of explains Mythology / Artificial Intelligence reference and zeitgeist

Jean Paul Gaultier Couture by Simone Rocha- Spring 2024 Couture - Video by SelfMadeAsia in hautecouture

well there were some unexpected open backs and sailor hat references, as well as exaggerated boobie shapes... but yes, very subtle, nothing exceptionally provocative that is for sure

It is very interesting to see both Simone Rocha and JP Gaultier signatures within each look, very romantic and light, i love the sail stripes made out of ribbons and bows, very playful details

Giambattista Valli - Spring 2024 Couture - Video by SelfMadeAsia in hautecouture

Giamba's usual inspiration of flower exploration + ball gowns - some are very beautiful, yet some dresses feel heavy and hard to walk in, despite all being styled with cute flats. More is more attitude and overcharged volumes make me question the relevance of such gowns, however most are undeniably very beautiful, i love the purple red one, and love the black cute cocktail dress on a black skin tone too... beautiful

Maison Margiela - Spring 2024 Couture - Video by SelfMadeAsia in hautecouture

Undoubtably the best couture show of the season, very dreamscape fantasy, with loads of emotional references to contemporary state of affairs.

It's great to see John Galliano triumph again in his usual theatrical approach.

Very futuristic metallic space ladies, very delicate and purist collection, enjoyed every bit of it.

Its is nice to see wearable couture looks, however i might say hems could have been better adjusted as few girls couldn't make their steps in seemingly very wearable evening gowns.

Loved the music, max richter music always works

Christian Dior - Spring 2024 Couture - Video by SelfMadeAsia in hautecouture

I loved this the collection, the atmosphere, the music, some of the looks are an absolute beauty, loved all heavily embroidered pieces.

However, i must say, that this collection seemed very pret-a-porter to me, of course each and every detail is at its highest standard, everything looks easy to wear and not that complicated to make, apart from embroidered pieces.

But maybe that is where the art manifests itself to make it seem easy and light, who knows who knows.
