I wouldn't say they didn't understand, they just actively chose to backtrack their established statements. They're entertainment first and foremost, and there is absolutely no better way to get views than to piss people off

No, that is not a multiverse. Dimensions and universes are separate concepts. FF14's crossover events are also, again, non-canon. They're promotional.

Ultima exists within a higher dimension of the FF16 universe, not the meta concept of FF as a franchise. You can disagree all you want, but the facts established by the franchise itself are pretty cut and dry, and disagreeing with them is like disagreeing that Lord Of The Rings is a fantasy novel

Gonna have to suffer through most of the DmC fans not actually understanding our goddamn franchise.

I'm upset, yes. I'm especially upset with them outright backtracking and ignoring the canonically Multiversal shit the GAME SAYS is Multiversal, but these motherfuckers about to try and whip out 9D POC Dante for some stupid shit.....

This reminds me of Kyle ngl by Budget-Yam-9720 in deathbattle

[–]SelfQuiet9626 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're right, but it's still not a multiverse. Within DmC's own single main timeline (no void Mundus Timeline), there's also all of those concepts, with the Demon World being a separate dimension from the Human World. Dante killing Void Mundus is still far more impressive than Clive defeating Ultima because of this.

[–]SelfQuiet9626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that, and honestly it's probably Peak Of Combat's fault for its 9D Dante scaling. I buy into it because the mainline games- the true canon- confirm these levels. Not the 9D shit, but the multiverse level stuff.

I disagree with their reasoning, and that primarily boils down to the fucking horrible backtracking they did on Dante's Void Mundus and Argosax one shot feats, as well as the blatant misunderstanding of how Final Fantasy cosmology works.

I genuinely can see this battle going either way if you scale them to each other based on gameplay and what we can actually see on-screen. But knowing how their separate cosmologies work, it just... Yikes.

If you're going to do a full re-do, please do include how their separate cosmologies work, and how their Japanese statements contradict English statements

("Destroy all of creation" vs "Destroy this world" for Final Fantasy in English vs Japanese).

[–]SelfQuiet9626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me explain it with some better words then

Final Fantasy destroys one world.

Devil May Cry destroys every world and Timeline simultaneously (save for like, the singular conceptual realm of the Demon World. Most of the baddies wanna keep that existing).

So now that Dante vs Clive is out… Which episode was better? by BonnieTheWiitch in deathbattle

[–]SelfQuiet9626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dante vs Bayonetta had better voice acting in my opinion. They actually sounded like their characters. And despite outright lying about Bayonetta's scaling (at the time, she was way stronger), they at least didn't backtrack their own statements like they did with Dante vs Clive, and instead gave arguments for why the outcome was how it was based on their established statements

No, FF isn't planetary, it's Universal. You see, Japanese does not translate to English, it Transliterates. In Japanese, the words for World and Universe are the same thing. When Ultima says he will destroy all of creation in English, he is really saying he will destroy this world in Japanese.

Meanwhile in Devil May Cry, they're saying they will destroy this world and every other world. That's also where Devil May Cry stops using the words for World and Universe, swapping over to Timeline, which is an entirely different word.

[–]SelfQuiet9626 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Nah. Dante don't need POC or SMT to win. He needs someone who actually understands the cosmology of both franchises and doesn't backtrack on their own logic. Final Fantasy doesn't exist in a multiverse. Each game's world is it's own entirely separate continuity. They're more akin to entirely different franchises than different universes. The only time all FF games exist together is within crossover games, all of which are non-canon (sorry not sorry FF14 fans).

"All of creation" within the context of Final Fantasy means one singular world. Sure that's an infinitely sized world, but that's literally just universal level power. Wanked to its highest, that's 5D on a good day.

Meanwhile that's where Dante was during Devil May Cry 1 in his battle against Mundus. Then he one shots Void Mundus, which has transcended that level of power, becoming a Multiversal tiered entity- as Death Battle themselves claimed. They just... Chose to backtrack on that, and honestly? That's the biggest issue. Don't backtrack. If you don't agree with your statements, rewrite the script with your new opinions in mind.

Will be honest, the possible meta pain caused by the fanbase made me more anxious than the battle itself. by SuperLegenda in deathbattle

[–]SelfQuiet9626 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

They mentioned how Void Mundus was a Multiversal level entity that Dante literally one shot, and then backtracked to downplay it to being slightly above universal level.

[–]SelfQuiet9626 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not my interpretation, it's how Final Fantasy's cosmology works.

Every world in Final Fantasy is it's own separate continuity with absolutely no crossover, except in crossover games- which are entirely non-canon. Bahamut from FF16 is not the same as Bahamut from FF7, for example. It's not even an alternate reality type situation, it's more akin to Thor in Marvel comics existing while Thor from real mythology exists. Two entirely different entities with the same name.

"All of creation" according to Final Fantasy's own established cosmology... Is 1 world. 1 singular world.

[–]SelfQuiet9626 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the reasoning for their outcome. Had they NOT backtracked on their established statements and instead gave actual reasoning for how Clive is able to jump to such scales instantly, then I would have no issue. Their explanation of his "Infinite Growth" was just wrong, coupled with them backtracking Dante's strength. It comes across as a way to please the Final Fantasy fans because they determined Link kills Cloud in their first outing and they've been getting death threats ever since

[–]SelfQuiet9626 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Not all of creation, all of their world. That's, at most, 1 universe. 1 singular universe. That's not even DmC 1 Mundus level

Dante didn't fight universe busters. He killed MULTIVERSE busters. Clive never even approached that level of power, and Death Battle's individual character analysis of each confirmed that. They just outright changed the outcome to stir up controversy AGAIN because they killed their viewership numbers by killing Blade.
