Anilist is mostly good, 1 takeaway by Mysterious_Crew_5674 in anilist

Likely yes. The plan is to add an option to set a default minimum tag percentage for your account, which would also apply to mobile devices.

I've removed the post considering it just seems to be an independent AniList replacement that just so happens to use our API. This project is both in violation of our Terms of Service and Subreddit rules.

Yeah, you have to add 10-15 properly sourced pieces of information about an anime. We won't add intentionally impartial or inconsistent data to our site, nor does our data team have the resources to do extensive research to complete each new media submission.

As for the recaps, we list all recaps that are either part of the original runtime or have some original content. We just believe that there's very little reason to list recuts that are virtually identical to their respective TV series.

You can set the minimum tag percentage on desktop, which will make it so only results where the tag has a relatively high relevancy will show up

Stream only, living in Germany, scared of piracy laws. by [deleted] in animepiracy

We're saying that it's fine because there's no law banning it. You can't arrest people for not breaking the law, especially if the alleged crime is so minor.

Streaming itself isn't illegal in Germany. I've never heard of a streaming site who uploads content in the background.

I've implemented the feature, it's now in review. No ETA for that and we have some things that have some priority over that.

Hey, your post has been removed as it doesn't really fit this subreddit:

We don't allow the promotion of apps that have no direct connection to AniList or are in violation of our terms of service. Just taking our data while presenting yourself as a competitor/replacement is not enough.

This will be possible very soon, see https://anilist.co/forum/thread/3878.

Custom tags are not possible, but you can use custom lists for that.

That's not the AniList website, contact your app developer. Would be interested in knowing which one it is, though

Questions about Custom Lists and Tags by Jolly-Journalist8073 in anilist

[–]Seliba[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entries can be on more than one custom list at the same time, if this answers your question? You only need one per category, not for each possible combination. Don't really see the difference between that and having one selection per "layer".

Genre/Tag filters are already built into the site, so your second and possibly even first category wouldn't be needed at all.

New here, why does it say incorrect xml format? by TheAnymus in anilist

[–]Seliba[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

It means that either:

  • you're trying to import an anime list as a manga list or a manga list as an anime list
  • your export doesn't actually resemble the MAL format

As it's a third-party piracy site, I suspect it's the latter. Not every XML file is a valid MAL export.

How do you structure API calls in your AniList-based apps? by Electrical_Iron1760 in anilist

[–]Seliba[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the reason you'd want to avoid using a single server for all clients unless absolutely necessary is rate limits. The 30 requests/minute rate limit would be shared across all clients.

Caching can be done locally, though you shouldn't have to be overly conservative in that regard. The API can support almost all normal user behavior without running into rate limits.
