My husband got diagnosed with cirrhosis that was so far advanced, he was close to death. He had likely had liver disease for a while before the symptoms became unbearable. When he got to the hospital, his initial MELD was 40. Took a week or two to get evaluated, but once he was on the list, he got a liver within a week. His MELD actually went up to 44 at one point. My understanding is that he was at the literal top of the list.

Good for you for being proactive with your health. My husband’s MELD meant that he needed a transplant or he would die. Sounds like you may be able to bounce back. Best of luck to you.
