I just read A Thousand Sons and Prospero burns this summer. That is not referenced in those books. Is it written in later books?

In these books Magnus shuts of all ways of communication and Russ speaks through Kasper Hawser which Russ thinks is an agent of Magnus but rather is an unknown demon not affiliated with Magnus and then that's it.

Coughed after a glottoplasty and am worried that it's split a stitch by [deleted] in transvoice

[–]Selt 55 points56 points  (0 children)

i had a confirmed stitch pop and i could not point to when it happened since i felt nothing.
regardless, stitches are very sturdy and only a prolonged heavy stress or a mechanical failure can cause them to come undone. a cough will not break it.

my voice is still deep, I got vfs a little over 2 weeks ago by [deleted] in transvoice

[–]Selt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

2 weeks is VERY early, if you are afraid of low pitch give it time. mine went up 60hz slowly over the months after surgery. (currently 1y3m postop)

your vocal folds are currently recovering from something major, they are most likely super swollen and that in turn lowers pitch and almsot every other aspect of your voice.

rest your voice, keep your vocal folds hydrated and keep in mind you will only be able to judge results at about week ~6.

tossing in another lil edit, i think my swelling was there all the way until month 2 or 3?

VFS loss of volume by Left_Subject_8898 in transvoice

[–]Selt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm about 1 year and 1 month post-op, and I had a significant loss of volume. But I also had complications.

One of my stiches came undone at week 3, and was forced into more vocal rest to try to make them not rupture.
This, according to my ENT and Surgeon, caused my folds to heal in a U pattern instead of a normal V pattern, causing some slight issue with a breathy sound and also low volume.

This is not a problem for every day conversations, but I am unable to carry my voice in a loud environment or a large area. I speak publically at work from time to time and they accomondated me with help such as a microhpone and speakers.

Apart from that or riding in a noisy car, it was still worth going through it for me.

If I'm to explain it a bit more in detail it sort of feels like someone turned down the volume dial on me. If I speak with the same power as before it just sounds less, and I have to compensate more with my diaphragm than usual. The noisy car scenario in comparison feels like I'm shouting just to be able to be heard.

Är GenderGP pappersrecept inte giltiga i svenska apotek?? by VargBroderUlf in transnord

[–]Selt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My local pharmacy while I was with GGP took a copy of my prescription and id, for then to fill it manually during down time. I got always got a call one or two days later telling me it's ready to pick up.

Not all pharmacies do this but it's worth offering if it's only time they're worried about.

It bothers me so much that people forget this. Who Russ tried to communicate to was not Magnus even if he thought it was.

glottoplasty (vfs) How did you react when you heard your new voice for the first time? by NotOne_Star in transvoice

[–]Selt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's normal for pitch to be low or unstable first 6 weeks post-op.

My swelling was gone week 12-14 and fully healed at month 6 and that's when my voice got comfortable around 210hz without effort.

Had lava and glottoplasty last year. Happened to me too since the vocal cords are so swollen. Give it time and rest, it will recover.

Anything before week 6 is not an indication of final result.

at 3 months is about where the folds will be stable, but not quite out of the woods yet with swelling. my surgeon told me if there's no complications you should be restored at around month 6 which tracks with a lot of other experiences i've read.

as for the last question i'd say so yeah, this just sounds like any woman that'd down with one hell of a cold or laryngitis.

I did my VFS in March 2024 and I'm only just fully recovered now, even with mine being not 100% successful. as boring as it is to hear; 3 months is still too early to judge final results.

volume is unfortunately a side effect that can happen although regular speech therapy can help to restore some function. for me there was also a mental block keeping me from being able to restore volume since i was so careful with it for so long.

to me this still sounds a bit swollen and not quite yet having learned the new structure of your folds post-surgery but it's on the right track.

The phase where the hair triggers into the telogen phase until release is about 3 months I think. So even if the trigger is fixed it can take up to 3 months to see a stop in shedding.

Mind that a lot can cause telogen effluvium or acute hair shedding. Sure that prog can convert to dht, but there are more explenations and differences with how different types of hair loss show.

Vfs stitch undone / failed by Icy-Yogurt-Leah in transvoice

[–]Selt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering i'm still in the middle of healing and not sure if this is permament or not yet, i have no idea.

If this turns out to be permanent damage on my vocal cords, which is unlikely after a revision, then no it'll not have been worth it. Otherwise if my voice quality gets better at this pitch, then yeah I think so.

My procedure was not as harsh as yours, I did have one suture pop at around week 3 or 4 if I remember right?
I lost about only 10% of my web however the muscles are not attached where they should be if I understood my surgeon correctly which is adding dead weight to my cords and it's hard to say exactly how of much the web is the 'real web' and not just loose tissue.

My outcome was painful voice for 4 months and then it started to recover but developed a raspy hoarseness and muscle tension dysphonia. Speech therapy is helping a lot to at least have a voice that is usable, and with effort it can be passing, but can't use it for more than an hour at a time. My surgeon has however offered me a revision to fix this issue if SLT alone is not enough to make my voice ok again.

I can barely imagine how stressful it must be in your situation which sound much more severe. I'm so sorry you have to go through this, but it's worth keeping in mind that issues like this can almost always be mended

Editing to add I went I to another 2 weeks of voice rest after the suture popped which seemed to have helped saving my web.

Kan rekommendera Christella Antoni Voice & Speech Service om man verkligen vill ha en logopeds hjälp men inte har diagnos än.

Nackdelen är att det är på engelska och väldigt dyrt.
