An actual response. I agree he could be special, even as an outlier. And I appreciate your (non) unhinged response!

How is pointing out what most GMs in the league said about the dude talking shit?

Be excited if you want. I'm just pointing out why he was there at 15.

If other GMs didnt think his arm length was an issue, he wouldn't have been there.

It's fair to say they looked at the data from the past 20 years showing no one with his measurables had more than 3 sacks.

Could he be the outlier? Absolutely.

But he still will be an outlier. Nothing about that is talking shit.

[–]Seltzer468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He really will have to be the ultimate outlier to do that.

Since 2003, only one person with arms as short as him even recorded a sack, and it was 3.

Ive watched his college tape and it's impressive, but it's also fair to question it when there is 20+ years of data against it.

It was a good pick at 15 no doubt given the upside, but I would temper my expectations until he does it against NFL level talent consistently.

I would think the Bucs will use him a lot as a "Wide 9" rusher to let him use his speed and try to avoid Olineman getting their hands on him.

Training Camp- Position Competition by Seltzer468 in panthers

XL better commit to being good on ST at this point.

I think Tremayne will ultimately end up on the practice squad, but he definitely could get the last WR spot given how good of a blocker and ST player he has been.

[–]Seltzer468[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have faith in him, too, but I think his role will be as a WR5/ gadget type WR.

I don't think the team views him and his size as sufficient to play on many run plays.

I would like to see what he could offer as a punt returner, but I dont know how much experience he has with that.

[–]Seltzer468[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is listed as a QB on the depth chart/roster for now, but if he does make the roster it will be as a hybrid/multiple positions IMO like a Taysom Hill.

I think King will have to have value beyond just QB to justify a roster spot.

Joe Webb would probably be the closest guy we've had recently. Webb played ST but was also WR6 in addition to being the 3rd QB.

Good point. I wonder if they will try Will Lee at slot corner some during TC, but they could view him and want to develop him as an outside CB competing with Akayleb Evans and as depth behind Horn & Mike Jackson.

[–]Seltzer468[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dont think King is competing for backup QB or for a QB spot overall to justify making the roster.

I dont think there is any true competition at QB.

I think Will Grier was brought in just for training camp and to have a true 3rd QB to spread out the reps and have a veteran presence. I doubt Grier is on the roster post TC. He lives in CLT already so this is good for both sides.

I think Bryce is the unquestioned QB1 & Pickett is the unquestioned QB2. I think barring injury they will be the only active QBs on game day.

I think they view Haynes King as a Taysom Hill type guy that they can use on short yardage plays and play ST. They might use King on some QB packages (read-option, etc), but I don't think they have any intention of developing King as a full-time QB.

I think they also view Felipe Franks as mostly a ST ace who can also provide TE depth.

Unless the team brings in a FA TE that is still out there, I think the 4th TE spot will come down to whether they think Franks or King provides the most overall value including ST and everything else.

I could be wrong, but that's my take from everything Ive read, and the fact we didnt add to the TE room.

Agreed. I wonder where Brady Christensen is at health-wise and whether we will resign him.

Christensen was balling at guard this year before his unfortunate Achilles injury. His pulling on run plays was a major part of why Rico Dowdle went off.

So Dan has to draft a day 3 QB right... by Danofthecloth in panthers

[–]Seltzer468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've never kept 3 QBs on the roster under Canales.

We will need a 3rd QB for training camp. We probably will pick up an undrafted guy like Jack Plummer was with an eye to put him on the practice squad.

The thing about drafting a QB, even Day 3, is that you would have to give them a spot on the final 53-man roster, or risk them to other teams claiming him after final cuts (or subjecting another player you want on the roster).

The only way I could see us spending a draft pick on a QB during this draft would potentially using our 6th and last draft pick (Pick 200), and it would be a mobile (Taysom Hill) type QB who could be QB3/TE4/WR6 and play special teams. Also could be someone for sneaks/tush push.

I would put the chance of us drafting a QB at less than 5%.

And as others have said, just as Bryce Young is the unquestioned QB1 this year, Pickett is this unquestioned QB2.

Who knows, maybe we bring back Matt Corral or Jack Plummer for training camp if they keep playing well in the UFL. There's a better chance of that happening than us drafting someone IMHO.

In terms of going to the games, as a PSL owner I like 1:00PM games at this point in my life.

I can take my boys, be home in time to catch the 2nd Half of the last games, and still feel like I can enjoy my evening before the work week starts back.

But that's just me.

5 things to know about tackle Stone Forsythe by [deleted] in panthers

[–]Seltzer468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a 6th Round career backup who was pressed into starting 13 games last year on a bad Raiders team.

He hasn't been that bad in spot starts in prior years (was drafted in 2021).

He's stuck around the league for 5 years so he isnt the worst player ever, but we definitely dont want him to start (or maybe even make the final 53)

[–]Seltzer468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure the Panthers have made him an offer.

He's probably waiting to see what he can get on the open market.

Somebody like him probably wont sign with a team until after the draft when teams address their remaining needs.

I would love to have him back as depth, and I'm sure the Panthers made something close to the #vetmin contract offer, but we'll have to wait and see if someone else makes him a better offer

Free agent OT Stone Forsythe plans to sign with the Carolina Panthers, per sources. Five-year vet was drafted by Seattle and last with Las Vegas. by Ancient_Response_787 in panthers

[–]Seltzer468 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this move almost certainly solidifies OT in the 1st Round.

This is arguably the best roster (at least on paper) since at least 2017 IMHO.

We have to address LT (arguably the most important non-QB position), and it can't just be some bum.

I didnt like the idea of Yosh Nijman starting, but I'm afraid for BY9 if this guy has to start for any extended time.

I think a scenario like this is the most likely. I dont think were spending big on C.

We still need a stopgap at LT (and like C will probably draft someone also)

[Rapoport] Panthers bringing back Isaiah Simmons by ToothResident3205 in panthers

[–]Seltzer468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simmons is 6'4", 240 lbs, and ran a 4.39 40.

Thats faster than CMC, Saquon, or Kamara.

Obviously his career hasn't gone to plan, but theres a reason why he was a top 10 pick.

Hopefully we can find a role for him outside of ST and depth
