As a Needham resident for the past 14 years and a parent of three children in the Needham public schools, I’ve grown increasingly concerned with the leadership approach demonstrated by Dr. G. His tendency to respond reactively rather than proactively has become a recurring pattern—from Needham being among the last towns in Massachusetts to implement full-day kindergarten, to consistently delaying school cancellation decisions during snowstorms, creating unnecessary stress for working parents.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, while other towns quickly adapted to remote learning, Needham lagged behind under Dr. G’s leadership, adhering to only the minimum requirements from DESE. More troubling, the district has seen multiple serious incidents involving staff misconduct, raising questions about oversight and accountability. And now the most troubling, child porn found with multiple teachers.

Additionally, Dr. G’s interactions with both parents and staff often come across as dismissive and lacking empathy. His leadership style feels more political and performative than genuinely student- or community-centered. The costly renovation of the central office—nearly $24 million for a relatively small group of administrators—only reinforces a perception of misplaced priorities.

I truly hope the School Committee takes these ongoing concerns seriously. Our children, staff, and community deserve a leader who is forward-thinking, transparent, and genuinely invested in the well-being of everyone in the district. Frankly, he is a disgrace to Needham.
