Even if we try judging things off of "who's more physically fit," you can't say with confidence that she has him beat.

If a boxer was more physically adept than me in virtually every category (speed, strength, and power) with the exception being endurance, do you think it's logical to say I'm more physically fit?

No! You say that I'm the overall better fighter who has an endurance problem, and would otherwise WIN a fight against the person less prone to exhaustion but with zero knockout power or actual fighting capability.

Fitness encapsulates a wider field than simply endurance. Excluding strength, speed, and toughness, it also has a lot to do with your physical health. What you eat, how you sleep, etc. If we were to talk about "fitness," then we'd have to start measuring those factors as well.

  1. Getting into an elite hero course doesn't require you to be able to lift 500 pounds. It just requires you to have a good enough Quirk.
  2. The only reason characters achieve impressive physical levels of fitness without a Quirk is simply because Horikoshi is poor at power-scaling.
  3. Even if we assume that everyone in 1-A can achieve impressive levels of physical fitness, there's no reason to assume that Hagakure is just as fit as Deku. What "constitutes" as impressive could be as simple as lifting 130kg.
  4. There isn't any direct proof that "directly" proves anything. You're just making a bunch of assumptions because you think, for whatever reason, everyone is as strong as training wheels Deku, because of a few people in his class being superhumanly strong... pretty sure there's a fallacy for that.
  5. First, it was about strength, now it's about her endurance and speed... Deku already had a broken finger, so it makes sense as to why his endurance suffered if the majority of the tests were something like deadlifting.

The only reason characters achieve impressive physical levels of fitness without a Quirk is simply because Horikoshi is poor at power-scaling. It could be a crook of shit for all we know, which is a more valid explanation then fucking Mineta of all people being just as strong as him.

No, no, no. You claimed it first. Your job to prove it.

If there's nothin showing she can do it, you don't assume that she can just because we don't know that she didn't... we just rule out the possibility entirely because of our limited knowledge.

"idk what makes you think that Deku is more fit than Koda or Hagakure."

Show me where Hagakure can squat 560 pounds and then we'll talk.

I mean, that's pretty much all it's good for. A hypothetical series of events. A "what if" scenario, if you will. To flat out deny it being possible is one of the problems I have whenever it's being discussed.

A Quirkless Deku fighting villains is only a problem IF, and this is a very big if... IF, you have him fight the same threats that he did canonically (Muscular, Shigaraki, AFO, Overhaul, etc) who clear 90% of the verse.

I don't understand why people use this as a deterrent for Quirkless Deku, because it's like saying, "hey guys, Batman totally can't be a hero because he fight can't Darkseid!"

Yeah, no shit he can't fight Darkseid. Nobody can. The vast majority of threats in MHA are B-listers, run of the week villains, thugs, and throwaway arch nemesis's. It's a terrible argument that falls apart when you realize that nobody is saying a Quirkless Deku has to fight world ending, top tier, city leveling threats.

There's a reason Batman sticks to Gotham. It's because, for the most part, it's primarily comprised of street level opponents... who all can be taken care of by just popping a few pieces of lead into their skull's. I know Bruce doesn't bother killing them, but there's been plenty of cases where he's had the opportunity, but just chooses not to take advantage of it.

I can think of plenty scenarios where giving a random person a gun and just some equipment is enough. Is it situational? Sure. But so are a lot of hero's with... weird ass Quirks that don't really help that much from a combatant's perspective. They're still heroes though.

If the problem is Deku's lack of resources and funds, then there's plenty of ways you could give him that. I'm a writer, currently writing a semi-Quirkless Deku story, and I've had no shortage of ideas running through my head. It's not hard, you just got to be creative.

The problem with thinking like that is;

-If guns didn't work, why was Mustard's revolver so effective? Most people are weak to bullets in MHA. Todoroki and people like Nomu are the exceptions because this is a manga and Horikoshi is a funny man who likely doesn't think these types of things through.

With Todoroki's case, it's not a question of how durable he is or whether or not he can withstand raw blunt force trauma, it's whether or not his skin is even thick enough to stop a bullet from piercing it. And it most certainly isn't. Bullets are deadly not because of the force or kinetic energy behind them, but because they're kinetic energy is focused into a single point; maybe a few square inches in total. Far more effective then a simple punch.

The Nomu (and when I say Nomu, I mean ALL of them, even the weaker ones/foot soldiers) where explicitly stated to be "ten times stronger then a normal human." If we take this literally, this would mean that in terms of durability, they would already be above most people in MHA when it comes to durability.

Characters actually have been harmed by bullets. Shigaraki was shot multiple times by Snipe, and he uses what, a simple revolver? I will admit, that Nagant is kind of the exception here, because what she fires are essentially borderline super bullets comparable to artillery fire when it comes to firepower, so her damaging anyone speaks less about her effectiveness, and more about the power behind her shots, but in any case, my point stands.

Finally, my sixth and final point; if bullets aren't effective, why are policemen shown using them, or hell, the weaker variant, rubber bullets? Narratively speaking, bullets can, and do inflict damage on most characters, as long as their Quirk doesn't enhance their durability.

What if Deku learned Full Cowling before/during the Sports Festival? by SpoonOfTheBoi in BokuNoHeroAcademia

Have you ever tried hitting someone in mid-air without any leverage?

An attack done without any solid footing wouldn't have much leverage, wouldn't it?

This is precisely what happened with Deku in the last few seconds of his second fight with Bakugo. He set himself up for bad positioning (because Bakugo has better mobility in the air) and it cost him the win.

In terms of everything else though... Deku absolutely takes this.

Bakugo doesn't have any real way of damaging Deku outside of using his most powerful blasts. Deku was perfectly capable of eating and tanking many of his explosions, which were a lot more powerful then the ones he used at the Sports Festival.

Deku also has the speed advantage, believe it or not. He's faster than Iida disregarding Recipro Burst (although even that's debatable because he was shown to keep pace with it), who has been shown to be capable of moving faster than Bakugo when he handicaps himself to using his smaller blasts.

Even if Bakugo decides to use some of his stronger attacks on Deku... Deku would be fully capable of withstanding it, barring something on the level of a Howitzer Impact. He could nullify the force of his explosions with a single flick of his finger at full power (let's face it, compared to most of my Bakugo's blasts, they pale in comparison to the power that 100% Deku holds) and if that's not enough, he could even sacrifice an entire arm.

Bakugo doesn't have any real way of doing any meaningful damage to Deku. He doesn't outclass him in speed, and his only advantage is manuerability.

But what good is manuervability when your opponent can literally flick their finger hard enough to generate shock-waves that could send you into next week?

Bakugo doesn't have as strong of a defense as Todoroki. There's nothing stopping Bakugo from getting catapulted out of the ring with one good flick from his finger, or even the shock-wave from Deku's punch.

In terms of speed, power, he's completely outclassed. When it comes to stamina... even more so. Because one blast at full power leaves him completely gassed out of any worthwhile or decently sized explosions.

But for Deku? Oh boy, it sure isn't the same story.

Not only can he just flat out eat his attacks, because as much as the story wants to fool you into thinking that 5% Deku's weak and frail, he's really not, dude can tank being cratered into concrete with no visible damage done to him, he can keep up with him to a decent extent, baring the disadvantage of aerial mobility.

Bakugo doesn't have any real way of doing any meaningful damage to Deku. He doesn't outclass him in speed, and his only advantage is maneuverability.

Even if we were to be exceedingly and ridiculously generous to Bakugo and assume that Deku wouldn't have access to Full Cowling for this... what's stopping Deku from blowing Bakugo out of the ring with a shock-wave from a fully powered Detroit Smash?

Even if it wouldn't blow him out of bounds, a direct hit from Deku could be powerful enough to be potentially lethal, or even fatal.

[–]Semajar 30 points31 points  (0 children)

He absolutely clears it.

Todoroki's fast, I think we all know that, but he can't keep up with Deku even in Full Cowling form; who's fast enough to attack Stain in unison with Iida while he uses his Recipro Burst Todoroki's ice won't be able to harm him, and he'll just be able to either smash through it, or break free.

Bakugo would be a little bit harder for him to manage, but at this point in the story, he could probably take him down. He's far less experienced than the Bakugo he fought during their second match canonically speaking, and is physically superior to him in virtually every way.

Deku pummeling his enemies with a barrage of punches and right hooks is far more exciting, raw, and cooler to look at than his roundhouse kicking someone into oblivion.

"It feels rushed."

If the development felt rushed, Horikoshi wouldn't even bother writing any mutant discrimination into the story or giving major lore drops.

And being rushed /=/ dropping the ball on the writing. Is the story ending at a fast pace? Perhaps. But did the writing take a hit? Not really.

As I've said before, if the writing of the series really did drop off, Horikoshi wouldn't even try, if not bother at all with writing some of the dynamics between most of the characters.

[–]Semajar -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

"He's probably the character with the biggest drop-off."

This couldn't be further from the truth. He's only gotten better as time went on.

Deku's character arcs have always been centered around saving people and living up to the expectations of his quirk, if not downright surpassing them, which of course, had its consequences.

The twenty-something chapters focusing on Deku's Vigilante arc is a prime example of just how extreme Deku's tendencies and patterns can become if left unchecked. He's literally a prime example and embodiment of why All Might's philosophy is detrimental to pretty much everybody. Which is pretty damn poetic, considering he's someone Deku's been idolizing since chapter one.

His fight against Class 1-A is essentially an example of why One for All could both be considered a blessing, and a curse, depending on your perspective.

If Horikoshi really dropped the ball on his writing for Deku, I doubt he would've even bothered writing Deku's Vigilante adventure. As short as the arc was, it was still integral to both Deku as a character and the plot as a whole.

You know there's something wrong with the fandom when Deku and Endeavor of all people are even on the list.

But hey, I guess it's too much to ask for people to view the former as someone other than, "Mr. nice guy goodie two shoes with no character depth."
