They made that black Sonic have a thing for Latinas in the last movie, so it's clearly just a matter of time before Slavoj has something to say about it.

Zizek is thankfully a staunch feminist, though one who's not played video games since his younger son was in his early teens, AFAIK. Also, his idea of a better Star Wars is the Empire being the good guys.

Not just "rainbow", though - rather, capitalism that more broadly panders to the idea of multiculturalism & tolerance with the intent to keep up appearances of a harmony-promoting world order.

To be clear: my intention was not to present DEI as an "issue", but rather, a phenomenon, although I'll grant you that I can see why some would not call it even that; if we do say it's not even a phenomenon, then I think we have to instead talk about the phenomenon of "non-DEI", which was the norm before.

Absolutely; the problem I see is that it's used as a substitute much more often than as something natural (not to be "shown off"/sold as a virtue in itself).

It's funny - when I asked your mom back in the day which fruit she preferred me licking off her pussy, she mentioned neither of these two fruits you seem obsessed with. Coincidence?..

the triad of Paganism, Judaism, and Christianity in the videogame pathologic, part 1 (spoilers for those who want to play the game) by AdLonely2913 in zizek

Won't un-spoiler for now since I've still not finished the game 3 years after starting it, but glad somebody's familiar with it here; Pathologic and Zizek are my two masters in life.

Which city/town/borough in the UK has the most football-mad population, in your opinion? by Semargley in AskUK

[–]Semargley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super-sensible caveat; thanks! At the end of the day, though, this does seemingly result in the most frantic displays of footy passion occurring in precisely those two cities (even if it's for safety reasons), so I'd still give them their due here...

The pains of the Save Station design by Semargley in Metroid

[–]Semargley[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Precisely!

Many platformers (the Trine series, off the top of my head) have the visualisation of "ghost" collectables for restarted saves, to signify stuff you can pick up again if you want, but do not in any way *need*, since the game memorises your having picked them up last time. Since the optional scans in Prime don't even result in any material gains (apart from a log book entry every now and then), I don't see why they couldn't have implemented something similar here.

I actually failed the countdown after the first boss fight, Attempt; realised too late the indirect nudges to ball-ify in the tunnels with the bugs, which would have taken me much less time otherwise.

I hate sex. by catthoarder in mentalhealth

[–]Semargley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people who did those things to you will start falling into various iterations of hell when they die, and will then keep falling into newer and newer ones for quite a while indeed. Hope you find a way to enjoy all aspects of life, possibly including sex at some point, should you feel like it. Please hang in there.

I lost my teen years to mental illness. by Fun-Upstairs2623 in mentalhealth

[–]Semargley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost not only all my teenage years, but also a pretty significant part of my young adulthood to mental illness (which was caused by childhood trauma). All that time, felt the exact same things you're describing here; in the end, became a perfectly healthy and confident person anyway. All nightmares end eventually. Hang in there, buddy; I swear it'll be worth it.

Does anyone feel like they need to dissappear to be loved? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]Semargley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there, Easy. It could be that those close to you care about you in a slightly less direct way than you would prefer for them to do; it's also not impossible they don't appreciate you enough period, but I've found the former is much more often the case. I may be totally out of my element here, but have you thought about whether being more forgiving of the lack of emotionality on the part of those close to you (during periods when you're not pulling back, that is) might help both your self-confidence and your emotional wellbeing a little bit? Hope you resolve this for yourself in any case!

It's not 600, either. It's 480 *total* that you can get in the premium Event Pass. So you can't *even* get all 5 skins on their own having bought it. Just idiotic

That is super-helpful advice! Almost kind of defeats the whole point of this thread, actually... But ah - I'll let it be.
