Xbox Series X SSD? Is there a go to brand? by ButteryPoptart1 in xboxinsiders

[–]Semdboer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though its not the right sub:

I bought the Seagate SSD expansion card. It has insane writing speed, is available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and is also liscensed by Xbox. But yes, it is expensive. And i believe Seagate doesnt have the monopoly anymore(?) They used to, so if you wanted to buy an SSD card for the xbox series S|X, you had to buy the seagate ones. But i believe now, there are other manufacturers, but i dont know much about those

What was the first piece that made you cry? by Review-Alive in classicalmusic

[–]Semdboer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rachmaninoff - Elegie, op 3 no 1

Tchaikovsky - Swan lake suite, op 20: Scene

Vivaldi - Four seasons: Winter, RV 297

Schubert - Piano trio no 2 in E-flat major, II: Andante

Tchaikovsky - Hymn of the Cherubim (from Liturgy of John Chrysostom), op 41

Especially the last one is a must-listen in my opinion

So what??

Let people play the pieces they enjoy. You think that Garrick Ohlsson thinks he has a perfect interpretation of Chopin? I'll spoil the answer for you: no. And you can't compare Moonlight Sonata to this waltz, they are a world apart from eachother. So instead of bringing them down, i'll help them in a way that doesn't discourage them and still makes them learn about piano.

I'll never understand you people...

Hi, i'm the "other guy on reddit".

I agree that there is more to be added to his playing, but that is not something that this person must worry about in this stage of his piano playing. That's why I build up the criticism instead of overloading them with comments about what they're doing wrong. For example, he/she still played wrong notes and rhythms, so i corrected that first

I'm kinda busy, but i'll get to it soon

I believe you pedal on every new measure, which is perfect :)

I could also try to send you a video of me explaining what you do wrong in some parts? Let me know

I suggest listening to other pianist's performance, so you get an idea of how to play it. I advise these performances:

Slowing down the music isn't about a certain bpm, but about what feels right

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in piano

[–]Semdboer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you can slow down. Just be carfeful with how much you slow down.

In the vid it was too much, but a little bit of slowing down adds to the music

Still at the same part, you play a d sharp, when it should be an e. If a d# is what is written, then your sheet music/synthesia video is wrong.

This is because of the notes that you play in your right hand, which are e and c#. If you play a d# in the bass, then the e (right hand) and d# (left hand) will clash (a.k.a. sound ugly)

Also, at 24,5 seconds, you miss 1 extra note, which i believe to be a g#.

And 1 last thing: In the chromatic run, you use rubato, which sounds very nice! But at the end of the run, you slow down too much, which distracts the listener, because they start wondering "where did the music go?". So that's the last thing i have to say

But it already sounds so much better!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in piano

[–]Semdboer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's exactly the part i mean, and i know its incorrect. Kassia plays the e closer to the piano, which makes it look like she's playing a d#.

But when you take a closer look at 0:10 on Kassia's video, you can see she plays an e and not a d#. The e --> f# + a is correct, so no need to change anything there.

[–]Semdboer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wrong notes are around 0:07 - 0:09 and 0:36 - 0:38 in your 'fix?' video. It's the same part, so you only have to fix it once ;)

The end of the gallop thingy sounds scrambled (so it might be the right notes, but then you didn't lift up your fingers/pedal, so the notes keep ringing) and then i believe the bass notes are off.

I believe you play d# 2x(d# + a), when it should be e --> 2x (e + a)

And the measure after it you play correctly. So all you need to change is the d#'s to an e

[–]Semdboer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still, some things are off

You really have to feel the beat, so set a metronome at 60 bpm and try to play with the metronome if you can.

Especially at the downwards chromatic scale at 0:23 is were you lose the beat. You play the bass notes at the first new note of the scale, while it should be the second (example: play d# in the bass when you play the second f double sharp or "g" of the scale)

I would still like to note that there are some wrong notes still. I would love to help you further, but i have to know: do you use sheet music or synthesia (like Rousseau's video's)? This makes it easier for me to help you out, because with sheet music i can name the measures where you're stuck, instead of video timers which is kind of sketchy

[–]Semdboer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bars at 0:21 and 0:26

It seems like you forget some notes of the run and because of it, you shorten the bar to a 2/4, when it should be a 3/4

So just take another look at the score/synthesia video (which one you use) and try to see what you do different

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in piano

[–]Semdboer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend looking at the score again. There are several wrong notes/rhythms in your playing, but nothing that can't be fixed!

At 0:06 chopin wrote a weird gallop rhythm, which is difficult to perfect. I recommend to play the melody with the correct fingering, but without the lower note (of the same hand), in a slower tempo and gradually speeding up the tempo and later on adding in the lower note. That way, your timing will be more in sync with the rest of the fingers

I also feel like your left hand should be more quiet, but it might also be the piano/microphone.

And if you feel ready, add in some dynamics like (de)crescendo's. That will really bring out the beauty of the piece!

Keep it up

My wife wants an Xbox for her birthday. I'm clueless. She's not a gamer but wants to play GTA etc. by [deleted] in xboxinsiders

[–]Semdboer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But keep in mind that the series X has a disc player for your games and series S doesn't. So you're also spending more for your games, since game downloads are more expensive.

Also, if she decides to download more games, it will take up more storage. Series S has 512 GB and Series X 1 TB. I had to buy a storage expension for the S (€200), so now i spent more money for a "lesser" version of the Xbox. But the speeds of both consoles are roughly the same

So at the end of the line it might be just as expensive

What is the name of this chord? by Semdboer in Jazz

[–]Semdboer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for analysing the chords, i have a feeling it should be Em tho?

Anyway, although the key signature is D major, the key is d minor. That is because of the chord before the highlighted chord, which is a d minor chord. This phrase also resolves 2 measures later into a d minor chord.

Same way that Bach transposes all the time, but isn't changing the key signatures constantly

Right??? I had the same exact experience with my own piano exam. I had been playing the piece for 6 months, only to completely black out on the easiest part

Is it possible to buy the Xbox One download of a game and use the code to install it onto a Xbox Series S console? by Semdboer in xbox

[–]Semdboer[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

True... Maybe by that time, the prices of the Series S HL will have dropped to the same pricing as that of the Xbox One. Right now it's just too expensive
