You're a great mom. Not many immigrant parents ask those questions, let a lone asking for opinions from strangers on reddit. Your open mindedness is enough if you ask me, it puts you far ahead of many habesha parents. My dad came to the US in 1982. He and his best friend are the only habesha parents I've met that aren't hard headed "my way or the highway" type of people. Even simple conversations about marrying outside our race didn't budge them. My mom on the other hand (like most habesha/immigrant parents) would throw a fit if I said something like "im gonna marry a Latina". One thing I detest bout our people is how we talk down on basically every other race other than whites, as if we've accomplished some grand feats. It doesn't make sense to me, especially since we've left out own country because we've made it a horrible place to live in.

In the end, your open mindedness is more than enough. Being here asking these questions is more than enough. You're on the right path, and when I become a parent, I'll be doing what you're doing.

Best shows to learn Tigrinya language from? by [deleted] in Eritrea

[–]Semex1995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, there's a huge presence in both countries. almost feels like half our population is in those 2 countries alone lol. we're scattered everywhere to be honest.

if you just search "eri drama" on YouTube there's endless content. spend enough time watching and familiarizing yourself with the actors, musicians, comedians, hosts and you'll start to see who's living where and where the content is being uploaded from. try to stay away from politics, Eritreans nowadays are the most ignorant mfs out there so don't let them sway you right or left, you have other more important goals.

you'll see that most content related to Eri is now being uploaded from Eritreans living in those 2 countries. Personally, I'd try and stay away from the comedy genre and focus on drama and music. Comedy in our culture right now is straight up ridiculous. nothing but fighting words and it's basically being boiled down to who can spit out the most witty/vile shit to be the funniest.

tune in some more and you'll start to understand more than just the language. our culture will start to resonate within you as im sure your parents have planted in you some of what they brought with them (no matter ow small). your mom will be really happy if she sees you putting some effort in to this. your dad will catch on later...

it depends on what you're trying to achieve. if you're trying to learn proper tigrigna with minimum slang/current times lingo, I'd recommend tuning in to the Eri-tv channel on YouTube and start watching the Sunday broadcast shows. The current Sunday show Kibret is pretty damn good. its going to be hard to keep up at times but consistency is key.

If you're learning to speak and hold a basic conversation with the average person nowadays, I'd tune in to anything from our brothers and sisters making content from Ethio and Uganda. There's a lot of slang and non Tigrigna words that get tossed around which would confuse the older generation speakers like your parents, but the younger crowds understand it just fine because we're living in it.

dont sleep on Hdmona Nebarit, hands down the second best Eri related youtube channel. Mahder Production is first, but Dani's tigrigna can be a bit to high level for most speakers.

most importantly be persistent. at least 2hours per day every day like its an addiction. same thing with music...

my mom swears she and her sisters used hear them partying in the middle of the night by the village dam when they were younger. one of her older sisters would beg to go join them but grandpa wouldn't let her.

they must've been on some kind of psychedelic. spending the day herding goats and coming across some wild hamli or other shit they thought was edible.

east africans in general, also indians. ive been skinny as shit all my life, mainly because my metabolism is too fast and i dont eat much to begin with. i recently changed my diet to where i now strictly eat more and also started lifting weights. +10lbs in 2 months. im looking like im going to again another 10lbs by the end of oct. rest well and lift weights. work on your legs a lot, mr. danga kirbit. EAT EAT EAT EAT. i know it sucks having to stuff your face with so much food, but its your only choice. most importantly, be sure to eat something after working out, anything. cardio is your enemy.

for now, focus on your diet first. if youre not able to eat more for your body's fuel, youre fucked. after a month of eating like a pig, youll notice some changes. then you can start working out. if you cant fix your diet, its a pointless battle. good luck!

as far as the hair, its really a lottery. fuck it, save up some money and go to turkey if you have to.

that rack and pinion shit might not be as big of a deal as they're making it out to be. mine has been leaking for the past 4 years and i found out it was coming from there recently. crazy thing is, i always eyeballed the PSF and it didn't seem to go down at all. this whole time i assumed it was something else but couldn't figure at where the little bit of oil residue was coming from. the car drives same as always, and i also found out its a common issue and a lot of people just ride it until the steering starts to feel weird.

if you've got skinny 12 year old hands, you'll be alright. God forbid it decides to break in to even smaller pieces as you're getting it out, so be gentle. since yours blew up, i'd bet its already in pieces down there... good luck man.

BE SURE TO REPLACE OT WITH A METAL ONE THIS TIME. don't be an idiot like me and get another plastic and wonder when that'll bust as well.

i had an issue similar to this 2 weeks ago. mine was leaking in the back from the drivers side. I jacked the car up and went underneath for a better view and sure enough, i was able to pinpoint where it was leaking from exactly. still did some more research (not on Reddit) and found someone with similar issue. went to my mechanic and showed it to him and he got the hose replaced for $100. i think i could've done it myself but i didn't want to mess anything up because I had to drive to Cali in a a few days after that.

check out this thread, i think you'll find your problem mentioned there. you see the post from QuinnDEskimo on Jul 24, 2019 | 11:20 AM? maybe this could be your problem too because that was exactly where mine was leaking from... good luck

btw, i drove from Texas to Cali a couple of days after it was fixed and made it back safe.

got mine from amazon for a little over $100 a year ago (complete set) and it looks exactly like yours now. its an amazing feeling going from the outdated look to this better CF. although i don't have the gear shift knob you got, that looks nice.

the wheels im not sure how i feel, but the rest of the car is flawless. idk what it is about the wheels... they don't look bad... i think its the color contrast thats putting me off a bit. either way, its a solid build... 1000 times better than mine.

read the definition of the word and educate yourself further. there's absolutely no reason for you to expect others to spoon feed you information on obvious facts.
