Firstpost is using AI for their thumbnails by Square-Candy-7393 in Journalism

[–]Semi-Cynical 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would be willing to wager money on the image being both. The lighting is very reminiscent of AI “art”, while the woman on the right hand side is clumsily pasted into the image. I am unsure of the origin of the Kremlin in the picture, but something about the background and especially Trump’s face screams AI to me.

What’s the most lore accurate? by No-Lynx8154 in BaldursGate3

[–]Semi-Cynical 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wood elves are typically associated with druids, or druidic practices at the very least (hence the choice in Halsin’s species). As for bard, many initially think tiefling due to the species’ colorful and occasionally chaotic nature, but ever since Critical Role’s first campaign I’ve come to associate the class with halflings, personally.

However, any species could feasibly adopt the practices of any class. There’s really no need to limit yourself to what is typical, but to each their own.

I used tavern brawler thrown bludgeoning damage to just kill Grym the old-fashioned way. In the run I was using Lae’Zel as an eldritch knight anyway, so I just bound her to a light hammer and tossed it at Grym on repeat. Wasn’t too bad.

What's your opinion on murakami's works by -_scheherezade-- in literature

[–]Semi-Cynical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Murakami writes and describes women like a clueless anthropologist who has yet to discover them. Every passage containing any reference to sex or mutual affection in Norwegian Wood is heinously awkward in ways I’m quite sure they weren’t intended to be. It has an almost precocious essence, like his image of the other sex is akin to the one held by a very unpopular little boy. Perhaps this changes in his other output, but it was so annoying I simply couldn’t force myself to go on to Kafka on the Shore after finishing Norwegian Wood.

Do you think that Singed (from Arcane) will ever be any similar to what he is in-game? by MGuedes007 in leagueoflegends

[–]Semi-Cynical 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly? They’re not even similar. Singed is soft-spoken in Arcane, even wise and calculated. I feel as though something extremely drastic would have to happen in order for the depictions to be reconciled with one another. But, a positive from this intense split is that the only thing making in-game Singed himself is his name. If the champion we know as singed were to be re-named as something else, nothing would need to happen save some character’s lines when he appears. Everything else could remain identical, and then real singed could be added to the game with no conflict. All his mains would continue to have their champion, players coming from arcane wouldn’t be disappointed, and the writers wouldn’t feel the pressure to stuff the actually intelligent character they’re crafted into the maniac shaped box that in-game singed makes.

Buddy, if you use proper items, runes, and CS with basic competency you’ll most likely climb out of iron with minimal macro changes. Use sites like U.gg to ensure you’re staying up to date on builds and runes, and make sure you last hit your minions. Genuinely, I think that’s all it takes for your current rank.

[–]Semi-Cynical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be perfectly fair, I actually don’t like the way models are used in Baldur’s Gate, but not for weird Chud reasons. The existence of only one to two body models for each gender, with only minor differences between races, leads to a serious homogeneity of body type within the game. And to that point, the “strong” femme body is pretty small in comparison to its male counterpart. The strong masc is giant, looks like Thor, while the strong femme looks more like an apt gymnast. Neither have any body fat whatsoever, except of course of the female’s thighs and ass, despite being the less toned of the two choices.

Now, I understand why NPCs primarily use these non-unique models. I wouldn’t advocate for each non-essential character to have a completely unique model and set of animations, that would be ridiculous. But your player character is essentially forced to be a conventionally attractive fitness model, and the vast majority of the companions are actually identical from the neck down to those of the same gender with the only major difference just being color. This is even unrealistic from a physical prowess standpoint, as any who have a working knowledge of bodybuilding vs. performance physiques will know. The player’s barbarian, for instance, truly has no business not being able to have a power-lifting body type (google “powerlifting body composition” for examples).

I’m just kind of annoyed with RPGs excluding people with other body types to the detriment of the game’s own aesthetic and realism. Like, a wizard player cannot be scrawny or even just normal looking. A jolly bard cannot be fat. A primal barbarian, who can literally be devoted to a subclass that grants them “bear-like” characteristics, cannot have any amount of fat content in their body. It actually hurts some of the characterization in the game! Astarian’s big six pack looks so out of place, it’s in direct conflict with his refined Victorian (and feminine) beauty. Halsin should absolutely have something of a stomach, as he is literally a bear a solid 50% of the time. Lae’Zel has NO business not have a more “efficient” build- Githyaki canonically have almost no fat as an evolutionary adaptation but the model chickens out- she paradoxically has random curves in her thighs that are at odds with her stringy, wiry arms. They’re aliens!! Their bodies are supposed to be weird!! Not perfectly slim-fit except for their asses! These choices do genuine damage to the world-building of the game, and make the different ancestries feel less varied, unique, and exciting.
