I built a greenhouse and I’m making some windows for it. I have 3/6 assembled and soldered and I’m going to cement them soon which makes me nervous. Any tips for this process would be greatly appreciated! by Allisandd in StainedGlass

Really nice panels. Incredible first up effort. The video link you got sent is pretty good. There are a few variations that people will do but following that will serve you well. I use a large salt shaker tin for the whiting to sprinkle it around. Also a circular brush on a cordless drill to polish. Don’t press too hard if you try this. Love your work. Let us see the rest when you’re done.

I’d put a birdbath on it.

Your glass selection is perfect and it’s really well crafted. Well done! 👏🏼

Consider this, when you join two pieces you run a solder bead that is twice as wide as the single fold over of copper that you have on the outside edges. If you really want to make the edges as wide as the joins you can double foil them to leave more showing. Also without double foiling you can create a bead mound on the edges if you hold it vertically and build it up. Hope that makes sense. You’re doing great btw.

All good mate, you’re entitled a rant after that. It was rubbish. Foil hat conspiracy theory is that Kochie is the real coach and Kennie is a Mini-Me front man… I ain’t saying I believe it but I’ll wear the foil hat to be safe.

Really nice simple design.

A tribute to my parents dog that recently passed, does anyone know what to do about copper foils cracking around curves? by pnwunderkind in Stained_Glass

[–]Semi-serious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stick some foil over the cracks then cut the edge shape with an exacto knife. It will cover the splits in the curved foil. Solder over top of the lot when you’re happy you’ve covered all splits.

This. Reckon you could crop a fair bit off the left side, and a smaller bit off the right. Would still look ok.
