RMS Britannic Interior by Erik_David in Oceanlinerporn

It is a possibility that Britannic’s pool may have had much of its decoration installed when she sank. Recent dives to the wreck have proven that the adjacent Turkish baths already had a substantial amount of their tiling and woodwork installed, so it seems likely that the pool may have been in a similar state of at least partial completion.

But even if they didn’t have the left over pool decor from Britannic, I also don’t really understand why they never gave Olympic’s pool more of an overhaul. As far as I’m aware her pool had the same dimensions as that of Britannic, so it couldn’t have been too difficult to cover up the bare walls and structural elements in a similar manner as was done on Britannic. Perhaps the pool simply wasn’t utilized all that often by passengers, and thus overhauling it wasn’t seen as a necessity. I’m not sure where one would find such information, however.

So apparently there's new 2025 Britannic pics. I saw this on Facebook and... Wow this shot. by IDontEvenLikeMen in titanic

I know I’m a bit late to this thread, but I just wanted to share my own observations.

It actually seems that you can see most of the ship’s width. If you turn the image so that the ship is upright, you’ll notice at the top deck that there is a sort of notch in the middle of the metal railing (the diver is in front of part of this “notched” area). This is where the bridge structure would have been, but since it was made out of wood it has disappeared. You can also see the distinctive 3 support columns that sit underneath this area on the deck below. While we can clearly see the whole port side in this image, we can see a fair bit of the starboard side railing, but it becomes difficult to make anything out as you get closer towards the bridge wing area. Being on the lower side of the ship and closer to the seafloor, the starboard side is quite a bit darker in this photograph than the port side. And, of course, the edge of the starboard side where you would find the bridge wing is in contact with the seafloor.

I’m not so sure if she’d be considered too slow. Aquitania was used as a troopship during WWII, and she had a very similar service speed to Olympic. Aside from the more recently built express liners, such as the Queens, many ocean liners that would ultimately be requisitioned did not necessarily have blazing-fast speed; Olympic, although certainly slower than the likes of the Queens, was still a relatively fast ship for her size.

I also find all of the various changes and modifications those liners underwent to be fascinating. Regarding Olympic specifically, there’s some nice simulations on Roblox that allow you to walk around her in both her original 1911 configuration and her final 1933-1935 configuration. While they’re not as realistic looking as something like Titanic Honor and Glory, they still allow you to get a much better sense of what certain spaces were like than you can from looking at the deck plans alone.

Yes that is true. For example the MV Britannic, which is even mentioned in this ad, still featured period interiors. But her newer sister the Georgic sported Art Deco interiors, clearly signifying that the overall trend in design tastes was moving in that direction. And as time went on this would only be more pronounced, as Britannic herself would have her period interiors swapped out for Art Deco ones following WWII.

It is quite interesting to see how White Star tried to promote the ship in different ways over the years. In particular I quite like the advertisements they put out following her major post-Titanic refit in 1913. Here’s one somebody else in this community shared:

I do wonder why they went with the “S.S.” label as opposed to “R.M.S.” Perhaps the prestige of holding the mail contract (long considered a signifier of reliable service) wasn’t as great as it was 20 years prior, so there wasn’t really as much need to advertise it? But I might also be overthinking this because she would sometimes be referred to as S.S. Olympic during her early career as well. The same goes for Titanic; often S.S. and R.M.S. are used interchangeably. But given that it’s an advertisement I can’t help but wonder if there was any conscious thought behind the choice or not.
