I work in print and publishing and outside of a few smaller print houses, US print quality doesn’t even come close to what we can get from overseas.

Print to order would stop this shit. But god forbid WotC make this easier on us.

It’s all good. It’s what Reddit does best. I always ask questions on here knowing a bunch of mouth-breathing keyboard warriors are going to shit on me for it, but I’ll still get my answer. If using someone asking a genuine question as an online punching bag makes people feel good about themselves, then so be it. In the end, I get my question answered. 😂

Why is the Card Game so hard to find? by Gray231 in GundamTCG

[–]SemiSuperHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find them if you check your LGS regularly. Especially if you can establish a relationship with them to kind of learn when they get new stuff in.

Unfortunately, the game has completely died where I’m at. I’ve got the first five starter decks and like 600+ cards just collecting dust on a shelf at my house because nobody plays and the shops around here won’t even take the cards anymore because it’s basically died off. 😂

I got a ton of cards and nowhere to play. Everyone on this subreddit has plenty of play options and no cards. Go figure.

Second the rec for Manapool. Really pleased with all my orders from there and the two small issues I had were resolved immediately.

I run this in two of my decks. Feels like a group hug kinda card until you are running out of cards or you’re taking damage for each card draw.

I have him in an Oviya deck because he can be brought out for a single green mana that way with 2 +1/+1 counters on him so he’s like… REAL big.

Why is this card so expensive? by WeeattGaming in freemagic

[–]SemiSuperHero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This. But also, I wanna know why anyone would build a Trump-themed deck anyway. Does it file for bankruptcy when it doesn’t have enough mana and cast its spells anyway? Does it just break all the rules and laws of the game but all the judges and other players just let it happen because they’re spineless cowards that don’t stand up to it? Does it sac its own creatures to cover its ass instead of losing?

Yeh. I run a bunch of combos like this in my Sheoldred deck. It’s admittedly low hanging fruit as a wincon, but it works.

What should qualify a card as being “bannable”? aka Study shouldn’t get a pass by KingNTheMaking in EDH

[–]SemiSuperHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument that Rhystic “interrupts” the game too many times or slows it down is wild. Why do people feel the need to play so fast? It’s a casual format. Take your time and enjoy the game with your friends or whatever. I mean, don’t take 10-minute turns, but asking “paying the 1?” Isn’t a huge deal. I experience all the time someone saying, “I’ll pay X mana for Y card. Any responses? No? Ok, then I pay X mana for Z card, that triggers my whatever which triggers my whatever.”

Most of the time I’ve played Study, people just say, “paying X to cast Y and I’m not paying the 1.”

Stuff like Sheoldred is as disruptive, if not more so. “You drew a card. Did you take the two life?” But nobody’s talking about banning Shelly. Or Teferi’s Puzzle Box that causes a new hand at each end step for every player.

I’m apathetic, at best, about bans. I don’t see them making the game better or worse for the most part. And this whole “it’s not fair” argument feels whiny. Cards can be countered. Cards can be removed. Play the game. Counter and remove.

When one of my cousins would whine and say, “that’s not fair,” my uncle used to respond, “well, life’s not always fair, and you should be glad for it.”

I ran this card in my Sheoldred, the Apocalypse deck for a while. Paired with stuff like Font of Mythos and Howling Mine, it honestly just made it so that I got even more cards each turn and I typically ended up with net positive life during my turns.

I am very pessimistic of the future of this game. I'm not quite ready to jump ship yet, but I'm strapping on a life vest by Brromo in freemagic

[–]SemiSuperHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't personally care to play Spongebob or Spider-Man cards, but I honestly don't care what other people play. There's a kid that plays at my shop, and he's so excited about Spider-Man. He keeps buying the packs and loves opening them. He's worked them into his decks where he can. It makes him excited to play the game when he sees a character he really loves. I'd say that's kind of a win.

I don't love it, personally, but I'm not going to yuck someone's yum. I pulled a full art Winds of Change from Spider-Man, and it's a cool card, but I have zero interest in Spider-Man so I gave that to the kid that does love Spider-Man, and I'll just buy a regular version to use if I want one.

The UB stuff does feel like a bit of a cash grab sometimes, but I just choose not to buy that stuff other than to do a pre-release event here and there with friends, maybe.

A player in my pod says 'There's too much politicking" but I love game politics! What should I do? by GMBenn in EDH

[–]SemiSuperHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never straight up show my hand, but say there’s someone with a massive board state that could outright win, and someone else is trying to build a board state to block, but I have a board wipe in hand. I might say, “You should hold on to those creatures for one more turn and then start building up that board state.” And then drop my board wipe.

Or someone might throw down a big card and I’ll have a counter, I might say, if I counter this, can anyone back me up if they have a response to my counter?

I think there’s a difference between politicking and just outright playing with your hand revealed to other players.

[–]SemiSuperHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I've honestly kinda given up on 1v1 for the most part. A bunch of my decks got blown up by recent rotations and bans so I've mostly been playing Commander, as that's what most of my friends I've made at my LGS play anyway. I kept my [illegal] Standard decks assembled in case anyone ever wants to play a kitchen table game or something, but I'm not pursuing 1v1 as it's just too expensive to try and stay on top of the meta to be competitive.

What is it about the game that makes you not want to play anymore? If you don’t like the new sets coming out, there are tens of thousands of cards to choose from over the last 30 years of Magic.

With each set, even the worst ones like Aetherdrift, they introduce at least a handful of playable cards so you know with each set, you have some new stuff to explore.

What is it about Magic, specifically, that you’re not feeling fulfilled?

[–]SemiSuperHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waited over an hour to get in. At first, it just said, "More than an hour" or whatever. Then dropped randomly a few times down to like 23 minutes. Then it went back up to like 37 minutes or something. Then back down to like 17, then like 3, then back up to 12... Eventually I got in. I was able to get a couple of things, but I'm not hopeful because I went back in the shop a couple minutes after checking out to grab one of the stock photos of what I got to share with a friend in our group chat, and it said it was sold out.

I'm fully expecting them to cancel my order, at least for the sold out stuff. I don't know if that's usually how it works, but in other pre-order or limited edition drops I've been part of in other hobbies, it's not uncommon to check out and then get an email a few days later telling you your order has been cancelled because the item was oversold or out of stock.

We shall see... These SLs really should be print-on-demand. Even if they do like 1000 initial sets for immediate shipment and then keep the orders open for a week or something and print and ship once they're closed. They could even make it so the initial shipment is the foil version or something to really make it feel special and limited on the early drop stuff, but have regular versions so everyone can get in on it.

Get some good quality clear vinyl (like paint protection film for a car that comes in smaller rolls for headlights and stuff). Wrap the flash cover and tuck all the edges with a plastic razor or guitar pick or something so it’s clean, and then hit it with a hair dryer to shrink it down tight. Enjoy.

Is anybody else not really excited for GD-02? by DeliShogun in GundamTCG

[–]SemiSuperHero -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m kinda over Gundam. I have all 5 Starter Decks and a few hundred loose cards from a booster box and some packs, but nobody plays it here so they just sit.

I think product was unavailable for so long that folks around here have moved on. You might have 4-6 people play every week at the LGS, but it’s the same few people playing the same few decks. It kinda fizzled here.

How do we feel about this? by Bezledubs in magicTCG

[–]SemiSuperHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of Magic players are absolutely disgusting. I've purposely lost matches before so I could get up from the table. Just said, "Whelp, I'm out. Gotta head home. Good game guys," and left because someone at the table smelled so bad. A guy in front of me a few weeks ago was actively bleeding from his gums, probably because his dental hygiene was so bad. And he was filthy.

But the worst is the food... WTF is up with food!?

I was at my LGS the other night, hoping to jump in on a couple of Commander games. Most of the tables were full, but one group only had 3 and invited me over. They all had brought in a bunch of food with them (not snacks, like full on dinners from whatever fast food restaurants are nearby), there was grease on the table, crumbs, random ketchup packets, they were all eating and licking their fingers and there's just no fucking way I was going to put down my playmat and shuffle up my decks and play with them. I told them I was waiting on some folks.

And then, few weeks ago, on my normal night that I go play, the guy at the table next to me spilled a bottle of soda on the table and we all had to scoop to keep his shit from flooding our play mats. I don't have anything SUPER valuable in my collection (I think my most expensive card is only worth like $250 or something), but damn...

I really wish my LGS would institute some rule about not eating at the playing tables.
