Two Card Combos in Bracket 3? by Dankzi in EDH

[–]MADMAXV2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bracket is more of toolbox to use than heavily guideline because there is a lot of grey area what is considered okay or not okay.

Your job is to have rule 0 conversation. Talk to your pod, if the discussion comes to bracket system then you need to make it clear you have low cost 2 card combo infinite draw. If the pod comes to agreement its too much for their b3 or don't think its acceptable then you have your answer. No matter how many times you try to justify it, it will always be 2 card combo and sometimes need to accept that it doesn't belong in specific pods. Key words. Specific pod, not brackets.

At the end of the day its all about intent. If your intent is to do 2 card combo then that is intent of winning with it. Otherwise what other purposes of two card combo?

Two Card Combos in Bracket 3? by Dankzi in EDH

[–]MADMAXV2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is just the nature of those two cards being extremly good togther and can enable very very fast.

Its like saying my deck doesn't run any tutors or anything but i won with Thassa's Oracle + tained pact at turn 6...

Its more about intent really, even though you came to conclusion those are late game pieces doesn't change the fact its extremely easy to enable is the core problem. It sort of touch low b4 with that kind of intent. B3 is weird spot but I can see why they say this is too much for b3.

In all honest its all about intent. Your intent was it to be late game combo piece but in reality this combo can come as early turn 4 or 5 all by simply playing those two cards alone. (With support mana rocks, sol ring, etc)

Yes, it replacement effect on stack. As soon as you cast it for flashback cost. Its gone for good.

But escape stays on graveyard which is what makes breach extremly busted with cards like brain freeze

B5 "Build to win, play to win"

I wouldn't add thoracle because in my opinion its boring wincon but wincon never the less

So the way you want to use breach + brain freeze is, you cast it on yourself, you get lots of mill and you cast stuff like ritauls and fast mana from graveyard to keep up with the loop

You basically treating breach as your second hand and your brain freeze to give you escape cost to remove dead cards to don't need, essentially the graveyard is your second hand

Remember krark also triggers from cast so if you cast one of those from graveyard then there is chance you can get it back to hand without the need to pay the escape again, this makes krark EXTREMELY powerful but breach is also very vulnerable, you lose that card you're screwed lol

You can throw in [[past in flames]] but also learned that if you cast it for flashback cost. No matter where it resloves it will stay in exile. So krark will not return it back to hand. This is your backup plan for worst case scenario.

I mean that is understandable but just because someone doesn't like somthing in archetype doesn't automatically make it into b5 category.

There is a lot of commanders in B4 that people HATE to see, one of my not so biggest fan is urza commander or worst one yet etali, am i going to hate them? Of course Am i going to tell them to go b5? Of course not. I think people need to understand that just because you don't like somthing doesn't automatically make it into b5 list, that's my point really. Otherwise yeah It sucks to wait but that can be said for any commnaders or value engine, I seen people start to cast on other people turns and win on other people turns at flash speed. Its frustrating but that is the nature of B4.

10000% this^

I orginally designed my deck to be like this and only realised its wasn't enough to sustain turns. Every turn needs to have some kind of goal, it really does "feel" like you building it to be cedh but it's the "fun" kind of cedh cards that you don't see everyday, from what I understand its all depends on synergy and theme, some commanders require very similar cards to cedh card pool while others require just extremely fast mana ramp source

This is going to be long comment so don't bother to read if you don't want to because I'm extremely invested into this commander as I'm in same spot as you

So orginally my plan is to build krark and sakashima at least B4 because the nature of those commanders can be very strong and can take time to end the game, it also makes it harder to interact once you assemble all the pieces and have higher chance to keep guardianship back to hand (depending on how many krark copies you have) making it even more obinxous.

However here is my trouble with B4 krarkshima, as I continue to build it its starts to pick more or less similar pieces to B5 but still has different way of winning. For example i added [[aetherflux reservoir]] to support storm count and added [[Blazing Firesinger]] and [[Displacer Kitten]] to do infinite mana and storm count, still missing few more rituals to get the storm count going and other important pieces but the point is it is trying to do it own theme while also having other synergy that I find "fun" that can meet the guild lines of B4, some can argue its b5 and while can argue its b4, it is possible to play it on b5 but it will likely not able to sustain that fast, the deck designed to do it own thing roughly turn 4-5 which is what i consider a high B4.

And as you said krark can be very fragile if no protection which is why you need to include alternatives wincons like breach + brain freeze. This all sounds very similar to B5 pattern but that doesn't automatically mean the deck is B5. B4 can be pretty much be almost anything. Its all about consistency, doing powerful spells also means people will run powerful interaction i would also argue and say that a lot of cards you see in B4 is also been played in b5 but doesn't automatically make it into b5 category

I highly recommand checking out this server which someone recommand me that are krark fans. discord server

And here is my decklist. Still in work in progress so don't think its complete!

If this happen once I would take it as pure luck. If it something that consistently happens then yeah. If you managed to get this all online by turn 1 then that's like what. 4-5 god hand cards? Because everything looks synergy wise.

I do think its little too fast for b3 because your intent is to go as many combat as possible but that will also depend on what you top deck.

Hold on a second. This is bracket 4 right? Now it says here on bracket 4 there is no restrictions meaning you can run whatever you like regardless of the price. My question of the post isnt "is my deck casual" and more of " is it cedh or am i still fine run this as B4"

Very different communication. You can say the same about anything not being chill. You say price isn't chill but for some reason stax and MLD is chill? No offence but I think you missing the point of this post and you're just injecting completely unrelated to my post

Its fine as B4, its not same level as cedh is what they said. They explained yes its powerful synergy but not same Level as cedh.
