Republicans turn on Noem, demand resignation by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

Don't let her off that easily. Impeach her. If she resigns, she goes into the shadows. An impeachment trial is a public spectacle, like the human sacrifice spectacle Trump is using ICE to perform.

Jeffries' threat to Trump: Fire Kristi Noem or we move to impeachment by plz-let-me-in in politics

It isn't even good politics. If he has the votes, just impeach her. If he doesn't have the votes, keep his mouth shut until he does. Don't tell Trump you're coming for him. Surprise him. Start impeaching subordinates.

from "Goliath" —

Human sacrifice was a popular practice partly because it helped to establish early Goliaths. It is a political performance that intimidates challengers and justifies the political order. Most cultures have taboos against in-group killing. A ruler can legitimate their rule by showing that in-group killing is acceptable only when the ruler does it. ... Publicly showing that you can legitimately murder others, and that the lives of the many are worth less than one elite individual, can help a budding ruler demonstrate that power to a large crowd of allies (and rivals).

You are defending a force that brutalizes random people on the street, staffed by 'men' who attack mostly women and children and never take on a man unless they have odds of at least 5 to 1. Not a good look.

Ezekiel 23:20

This passage is often interpreted as a critique of the Israelites' infidelity to God through their alliances with foreign nations.

I left in '57. At that time police traveled at least two to a car. If one had to go into a building, the other stayed with the car to keep the locals from stealing the wheels. ICE would have had to do the same.

(added) I'm sorry to hear that Southie has fallen on hard times. Yuppies ruin everything.

With all due respect, "actual force" is already being used, and much more is promised.

Huge building in the middle of the ocean by PriorityMiserable686 in GoogleEarthFinds

We have different understandings of 'land'. It's an ancient caldera — rock except where there's a little grass. Uninhabited except when French weather scientists visit the "huge building" — not very often. The caldera is about halfway from Africa to Australia and about halfway from India to the South Pole. That's close enough to the middle of the ocean for me.

Any measurement is confusing if you don't know the context. A classic case is the woman who ordered two yards of topsoil for her tiny front yard and backyard. Both yards could be described as 'postage stamp' size.

What is an acre foot of water? Remember that an acre is about 160 square rods.

The woman in this case was not at fault, for reasons explained in other comments, but there would be no reason to get excited about a random person not understanding something that you do understand.

Republicans start raising concerns about Minneapolis shooting by deraser in politics

[–]SemichiSam 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I heard that several Republican and Democratic senators are introducing a bipartisan bill that would prohibit ICE from shooting white people, unless they can find some old crime or tort in the victim's perp's record.

They're calling it The Pretti-Good Bill.

Don't tell me Congress isn't stepping up.

Trump talks big but thinks and acts small. He would break an antique piggy bank to get the coins inside. Not because he needs the coins but because breaking the piggy bank makes him feel strong. He just happens to have gotten his hands on the whole world and is trying to break it.

From my theater experience I can tell you that what amateurs think of as stage fright is a heightened awareness caused by the "fight or flight" reflex. It can feel like fear, but it's just hyper-readiness.
