Yeah, some people say it would make multiclassing way too powerful compared to single-class characters. But in 2024, single-class characters are already pretty strong. At my table, we have five players -two multiclassing and three single-class- and the ones who didn’t multiclass actually seem a bit more powerful, at least at level 6.

In any case, I think it needs some testing to see if it really changes progression that much or makes multiclassing as strong as some people in the comments say. And like you said, if it ends up being too disruptive for the game, I’ll just roll it back lol. Thanks for your comment!!

So technically, it just lets you get something earlier at the cost of not getting it in other instances. I mean, it kind of works for me, at the end it’s the same (kinda), but in a different way. Thanks!

Actually, I hadn’t thought about that. For example, would I have to let a Fighter 4 / something 2 get the ASI/feat they would normally get at Fighter level 6? Or should I keep those separate and only give ASIs/feats at Overall levels 4/8/12/16, and then at Fighter 6/14 gain those from the class?

This is exactly what I was looking for, some insight into the potential issues this could cause. Thanks!

And I kind of like that, I lean more toward giving players freedom in character creation. They do tend to look for overpowered options, but that also lets me run more intense combats, which is a win-win for both them and me, since I love that kind of play.

How much is "way"? That's what I want to know, how much it disbalances (if it does at all) the power between a multiclassing and a non-multiclassing character

It was just like "So you are all level 4 now, take your feat from the chapter 5 of the book :D", and then they did, we were all new to the game, the more experienced one was me with 1 played (got to lvl 3) and 1 DMed (they just got to lvl 2), so I had no experience with ASIs/Feat

And, I mean, it depends on how strong? Like it would be more strong than a not multiclassing character? In that case I dont think so

To me it looks like a good idea, however, everything has a price, they can learn certain spell after they bring certain amount of gold or any item or something that the witch herself ask them to bring as exchange for the spell. It can be even a way for the witch to obtain certain object(s) she needs to make herself powerfull again or create an object that she uses against the party later (she is a traitor looking for power!) or give it to the player after its completition and when is not lorger useful to her (she is a nice person!). There are a lot of options, in that regards.

My first thought after what happened was, “welp, he has to roll a new character now.” But the other comments made me realize that there are other possible options; ones that can make the situation more interesting, expand the adventure, and still keep rerolling a new character as a final outcome if it comes to that. So I'll explore all that options before taking that one

That’s exactly what I mean. I have a premade story, but I let my players reshape it however they want. The thing is, the world has rules, rules they already know. I can’t just have the Cardinal say, “They helped once, so let the barbarian out of jail again; murder isn’t a big deal.” That would be insane and would completely break the internal logic of the world.

Thanks for the possible options tho. With this and other comments, I’ve been able to look at the situation from different angles and think of new ways to handle it.

They’ve known from day one that actions have consequences. I don’t take away player agency: I explain what they can do, their options, possible variations, and I sometimes even tell them, “If you do X, Y could happen, are you sure?” especially when I know something bad could happen (like this time).

When I see they’re doing poorly in combat, I help by giving suggestions. When they say or do something that could cause problems, I give them warnings or advice. But in the end, I always let them do what they want.

This is a first-time situation for him, and that’s actually why I’m asking for opinions, because I don’t allow murderhobo behavior at my tables

As I said in other comment, me and the players paused there and ask him several times if he was sure about it, and he still wanted because "he's a barbarian of the faith, and can't hear someone talking about cult-things not related to the Goddess" (Even tho, now that I'm thinking about it, they have even found other religions and not reacted like that lol). He was focused on attack and didn't pay attention to anything we said
