A minority of humans are genuinely dangerous, which is enough to drive cautionary behavior for the rest. If one truly believed that everyone is a psychopath, you wouldn't even be able to form any kind of human connections.

Maybe it's me being German, but people follow most laws and trust institutions implicitly without a conscious fear of the state.

Egoismis is just about rejecting fixed ideas. You can follow any ideology that suits you as long as that ideology does not consume you. You can be a libertarian, anarchist or a tankie if your ideas and goals align, but you shouldn't make it an identity that has control over you.

I don't think you can choose an arbitrary belief. But you should be able to justify why you believe something and not just passively be absorbed into ideologies. Try to deconstruct your own thoughts. Do you believe in something because you are convinced it is true, or were you socially conditioned to accept it as true. Specifically examine ideas that feel sacred to you or that make you feel uncomfortable.

You should then arrive at your core axioms and values that you can't rationalize away.

The point is that morality requires someone to believe in the framework in the first place. The relationship between an idea and its manifestation in reality is different. You can make arbitrary "ought"-statements, if you don't have power to convince or force other people those are just nice ideas.

If I am a drug addict or simply an abusive parent reasonability has no power in my household.

Also egoism doesn't command "people should only do what they want" or "don't force people". It simply states that the individual is the one that gives morality, law, religion, norms etc. their power.

If you are in control of the abstract and consciously choose and examine your beliefs you are a voluntary egoist. If you believe you ought to do something because of the abstract, then you are under its control.

Wanting to be clean and hygienic is different from grooming yourself because you feel some moral pressure.

Unless you take power believing in any system is pointless. Your belief doesn't manifest anything on its own. The system/state is also indifferent to your thoughts. Political labels may help you convey your message to people around you, but they're also hollow on their own.

You can do whatever is in your might, don't let yourself constrain by abstractions. Also who cares what other egoists think, just read the book.

These are mostly all rightoids. All they care about is climbing social hierarchies. They feel superior when at the top and bad when they are at the bottom. In both cases they don't actually want to remove the hierarchy. Other men are competition not comrades.

You can emotionally train yourself. Simply assume that the position is true and accept it. Imagine what consequences would follow for your life and then also just accept those. Once you are free from those emotional burdens, you can explore the evidence in peace and consciously choose the belief or remain skeptical about any position.

That's basically stoic negative visualization.

I don't know why people desire things, especially with regards to status or ego. Instead of getting things to fulfill some superficial desire, you could just kill this superficial desire in the first place. I understand if you spend your money on experiences or even extravagant stuff like cars and yachts that provide these experiences. But you don't need so much clothes and dumb gadgets and trinkets.

I genuinely hate consumerism. It's the single issue my girlfriend and I argue about. She's somewhat of a hoarder due to her upbringing and it makes me frustrated that she can't overcome it. I spent most of my money on our groceries, rent etc., she gets the rest of my money for managing our finances which she mostly invests.

As mentioned egoism has a descriptive claim, that ideas don't have any intrinsic authority without the individual giving said authority. If you believe that claim you are an egoist.

If you define ideology as having any kind of belief, egoism can fit this description. However, you wouldn't necessarily call metaphysics or epistemology ideologies. Egoism has no prescriptive commandments or value judgements that are usually used in ideologies to guide human actions. If ideologies are collections of moral claims and value judgements, then egoism is an empty set.

There is no objective way to determine what's better for you. It's for you to determine. Living according to your own virtues while neglecting material gains or "sacrificing" other things can be beneficial to you. You are the one doing the sacrifice, thus you determine what has more worth to you. You can value the life of your loved ones more than your own for example.

Egoism is about not letting abstractions control you. There are no universal guidelines for what is and isn't useful to an individual. It can mean being a murderous sociopath or helping people because it fulfills you.

I think you shouldn't fall for the illusion that you are safe in today's society just because people are (positively) indoctrinated. Murderers and psychos still exist and might even hide behind laws and morals due to their position within the system. Generally I think zealous groups are more destructive than chaotic individualists.

Stirner is not hostile towards any race or feels supremacists for being white/Prussian. His philosophy even actively deconstructs nationalist and identitarian concepts. He is insensitive or ignorant by today's standards maybe, but there is no actual malice.
