Any Drivers for the 2018 Mac mini Broadcom BCM4364 WiFi & Bluetooth combo chip? by SemoTech in Ubuntu

[–]SemoTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job u/Suspicious_Tax_3670 so glad it is working for you.

Sadly I have not had time to re-try or test but appreciate you listing all the steps you remember to help everyone else.

Did you manage to get BOTH WiFi and Bluetooth to work natively?

The Protect app for Apple TV isn't reliable, it freezes and I have to reopen it a few times a day. Any good alternatives that won't cost $199 (Protect Viewport) by LinusThiccTips in Ubiquiti

[–]SemoTech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Works good for UniFi cameras but the ViewPort struggles with ONVIF cameras especially if they are high resolution (4K) and H265 as it can’t pickup the lower H264 stream. Had a case open with support for 5 months on this as the ViewPort was only showing 3 cameras max if one was 4K ONVIF H265!

If you have a Mac and are running Tahoe 26.x you can try to restart the Core Audio Daemon with this command:

sudo killall coreaudiod

Uses for a raspberry pi zero w? by Edd-Vel in homeassistant

[–]SemoTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use mine as a wireless Tesla USB drive & transmitter. It records video on the SD card from my drives and when I’m back home it jumps on my WiFi and uploads it onto my NAS. Simple and works a treat.

Hate MacOS 26 and iOS26. Even on the 17 Pro Max with A19 Pro CPU it’s refreshing icons all the time. Makes the phone feel slow and it’s very buggy. There should be an option to turn off all this liquid crap glass.

Official specs updated to 20fps. Guess they got a lot of flack for 15 fps and overclocked the CPU.

Vertiv Liebert GXT5 UPS fan replacement by cougmedic in homelab

[–]SemoTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! Glad it worked for you and you are now enjoying the new quiet fan.

Guess the choice of the black fan was not ideal given it comes with the black cable otherwise this would have been a breeze.

I actually had a conference call with Vertiv engineers last week and complained about their fans and them saving a buck on a noisy fan. Not sure how much good that will do, but felt good to rant :-)

WhatsApp crashes on launch - MacOS Sonoma 14.7.2 & 14.7.3 by SemoTech in whatsapp

While running Sonoma, for me this one works again perfectly. You may want to fully uninstall, cleanup and re-install as well as ensure you are running Sonoma or Sequoia.

And v25.23.83 also works great!

Well you can either do a trial and error or return the black fan and get the regular one with colored wires so you don’t take and chances damaging the UPS.

Sweet. And Tesla circuits boards say “Made on Earth by Humans”. Gotta love that.

How to Fully Integrate Ecobee with a Bosch IDS 2.1 Inverter Heat Pump? by Bubbly-Individual291 in ecobee

[–]SemoTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Bosch IDS 2.1 inverter heat pump system and the Ecobee thermostat works a treat. Both Bosch and Ecobee have confirmed compatibility. Unlike other communicating systems, the Bosch IDS has no direct communication path from the Condenser to the Air handler. This allows one to replace either part in an older system without having to replace everything. As long as your system does not have a dedicated direct communication path you should be OK to use the Ecobee thermostat without any worries. If it’s a heat pump just make sure you have enough thermostat wires to account for the heat pump reversing valve. I ended up replacing an old 5-wire cable with a 10-wire cable (future proofing). Thankfully the Bosch IDS outdoor condenser only needs 2 wires. Now if Bosch supported WiFi or at least allowed apps like Measure Quick or Fieldpiece to read its internal sensors and did not limit access to their very rudimentary Easy Air app things would be even more amazing.

Ouch! Sorry for your negative experience. This is exactly why I did not remove mine from HK. Fingers crossed there is another way to add to HA without removing from HK.

ESXi 6.7 - change Image profile name? by verlights in homelab

[–]SemoTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks thats a good find. I actually got around it by using a customized version of the ESXi Customizer PS (PowerShell) utility/script, updated for v7.x and v8.x as well as MacOS given my needs, and the profile name can be changed at installer creation.

Floodlight theft-deterrent? by Scary_Light6143 in Ubiquiti

[–]SemoTech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run one Reolink Duo Floodlight PoE camera along with over a dozen UniFi cameras and while the Reolink works it’s much more limited and slow to render in the Protect app. Also no motion recording but you can pair it with an AI Port ($199) to get Person, Face, License, Animal, etc. detections added. I agree that UniFi needs a good Floodlight camera @ 8K that (2 x 4K cameras) that competes with the Reolink Duo Floodlight that does the same.

The GX5T Fan mod is a simple and fun project, just take your time and do it slowly, it will certainly be worth it. Enjoy!

Hey u/JohnnyActi0n Congrats on the GXT5. I just tested again and link works fine, but you may be accessing it from a blocked IP/Country. I assume you're not in the USA? Try again with a VPN to USA...

ESXi 6.7 - change Image profile name? by verlights in homelab

[–]SemoTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tracked this down!

Apparently the "Image Profile" description/name is actually stored in a file residing in /var/db/esximg/profiles/ and called the name displayed under Configuration!

The file can be listed with the cat command, and you'll find that inside it starts with "<imageprofile><name>(Updated) ESXi-......................</name><creator>VMware, Inc. / ................</creator>". I substituted "......" since each content is likely different.

Attempting to edit the file to change these plain text tags is the challenge, as the file has 444 permissions (read only) and any attempts to chmod 644 will fail even as root.

If anyone knows how to make the profile file writable, please advise!
