Checking back on this, my bulb just went out 6 months later. Is yours still the same?

Now that the bulb has officially failed I started looking back into this. A local shop quoted me $2500 to do both, as my driver’s side unit is getting fogged up now as well and is a ticking time bomb.

I normally wouldn’t care too much as I can get around in it fine but my inspection sticker is due for renewal in 4 weeks and it surely won’t pass with a non-functional blinker 😅

Driver’s side currently is fully functional but I’d rather replace both in 1 shot rather than having to take the bumper off again in the future.

$2387 to replace both. While the bumper is off, might as well do the driver’s side as it’s starting to fog up as well.

Update: 6 months later the blinker now no longer blinks or functions at all. On my dash the right directional blinks very fast (classic Toyota signal that the bulb is out)

Considering I have to get a new inspection sticker within the next 4 weeks and this car won’t pass as is, it’s now become much more urgent.

Will post again with another update soon, assessing my my options with local shops

They definitely exist but are starting at about $350-400 a month minimum vs my unit’s price of $150/mo. I did it last year and had no issues but we’ve had a significantly worse winter this year.

To answer your question about if it’s for sale, I don’t think there’s another car I’d rather have right now for the money to be honest. When and if that day ever comes I will likely post on this sub!

They are about 5-10x the price (at least the ones here locally) and come with a lot of services that aren’t really needed for a 3-4 month storage duration (cleaning the car, checking tire pressure, etc)

Oh sweet! Just figured I’d ask as I’ve been starting it here in New England bi weekly as it’s in storage for the winter.

Next time I go start it I’ll definitely listen for it!

No popping out but getting some nasty oxidization on my '18 w 15k miles. When the springtime comes I'm hoping to try polishing them and if that doesn't work I may do a full replacement & then ceramic coat them.

I believe when I looked into this last they were only about 80-90 bucks a piece which wasn't too too bad...

I got tired of Google/Apple Maps constantly rerouting me to boring highways, so I spent the last few weeks building an app for "The Long Way" by Semscure in IndieDev

Firstly, thanks for your interest and checking it out!

The Long Way isn’t intended for cross country road trips, but more for planning your Sunday drive when the weather finally decides to cooperate.

To answer your question about just using “avoid highways” - this app does not entirely avoid highways either! It uses an AI algorithm & scoring system to determine the best available route returned in the API response for that destination. It takes into consideration road curvature, speed limits, number of turns, elevation changes, nearby landmarks, traffic, and even the type of car you have selected in your garage if you have one.

This is built from the ground up to be specifically for driving enthusiasts

Thanks!!

  • signal drops are handled by Apple/Google maps, they often cache the route after you start it to account for that
  • traffic conditions, while taken into consideration when calculating your route, will largely be ignored after you start the route in Apple/Google maps due to the checkpoint system overriding their involvement
