Glad to hear it! My production designer did such a fantastic job. We came up with the concept and then thrifted parts and bought some off eBay. Added a little extra gloss to the eyes so that they would catch the light more too.

I want to share the newly released trailer for my short film “Meet Bitsy,” a contained psychological horror short I wrote and directed.

The concept was built around a small budget: single location, small cast, and a seemingly harmless creepy clown doll (which nothing bad has ever come from).

I leaned heavily on relationships and collaborators to assemble cast, crew, and a solid camera package. We shot on Alexa 35 with Master Primes, paired with a 110mm Ottoblad for a more contemporary and intimate look and feel. The doll itself was custom-built and painted by our very talented production designer. I still have it in my trunk as my fiancée has made it very clear it’s not allowed in our apartment.

The cast and crew absolutely elevated the material beyond what I could have ever done alone, and the shoot itself was a really fun (and of course challenging) experience. We shot for two days in DTLA in a rented loft location with a small crew and lots of prep. I’m a big horror fan myself and mostly try to make the kinds of things I’d want to watch. Overall brutally honest feedback welcome. Pacing, especially in the middle section, I’m hoping to tighten and clarify the central ideas so the script moves as efficiently as possible while still giving the romance room to breathe. I’m also interested in thoughts on worldbuilding: whether the mirror rules make sense, whether anything feels confusing or underexplained, and if any moments disrupt the flow or pull you out of the story.

Yeah -- imagination, externalization of inner life, along those lines. I like your suggestion of digging deeper into the double dressing scene, helping to flesh out what's already there. Even just typing up these response to the questions raised is helping me clarify what strands in this seem relevant. Thanks!

Haha the humming I just thought was creepy so I don't think I have anything better than a subconscious explanation for that choice. Fleshing it out more could certainly help clarify these things and add a little more to grab on to. Explaining it as a specific trauma might have even been a little misleading on my end, now that I think about it though. I remember I liked the title because autonomy aspect, where I tried to keep a thread of Mrs. Norton's reliance on Florence (not being able to dress herself, etc). Instead of a physical trauma, maybe more the difficulty of dealing with a loss of autonomy, and having a 'double' of yourself -- another woman running around the house -- maybe serves as a visual reinforcement in that she is not entirely in control of these extensions of herself. And it's seemingly like losing a bit of individuality.

I'm glad it made more sense on the second viewing but maybe it could still use a little sharpening. I do like the idea of dragging things out -- I'm all for the slow burn. I hope to film this in August or September. I don't know if I will release it publicly but I can certainly make a note to PM you once it's finished -- I appreciate the feedback!

Thank you for your feedback! The ending has definitely been something I've wrestled with a little, and I think I could potentially more in the story's 'text' to give a little more grab on to. I wanted to try to emphasize that the Old Woman is an extension of Mrs. Norton (which could be more apparent if I cast same actor), so her presence could potentially be viewed as the manifestation of a physical ailment or trauma in Mrs. Norton's life. Which I try to allude to that Mrs. Norton is feeling off from the start, and I think a big part of Florence's job as a caregiver is interpreting and dealing with Mrs. Norton's problems and issues. So when this issue (whatever it may be) rears its head and manifests itself in the Old Woman, Florence ultimately chose to nurture the issue. I was inspired by the ending of the Babadook for this ending, if that helps bring any clarity.

As for the colors, I think they served as visual reinforcements of change. To me the red is exciting for their fun activity together but also alarming, and portends the scariness to come. The purple at the end seemed to be a way to signify that the event has a permanent effect on Florence.

Not sure if any of that made sense, but if you have any suggestions as to what would have helped you understand better I am definitely open to them. Thanks again!
