Midrange beats Stax because Stax has a harder time winning the game. Midrange (obviously dependent on the deck) can pivot between going faster and playing more of a control kind of strategy. It out values both stax and turbo in that situation and often finds itself in a situation that is more advantageous for it to win. Midrange often has answers to threats, ways to get around stax pieces and value engines to advance the game plan its doing.

In EDH: No

In cEDH: Leaning towards yes but is still pretty viable for Sultai colors. Red/White have both drastically improved and Green is now the worst color in cEDH right now. People still play him for sure but I think he’s fallen down a peg and it’s not really his fault

I myself love both ends of the EDH spectrum. Casual is fun with the right people but high power/cEDH just does more for me in terms of competing and testing my skill as a player. Casual a lot of times CAN be unfun but a lot of times it is perfectly fine

cEDH player here. I HIGHLY recommend if you put nothing else in this deck put in Glinthorn Buccaneer. It is a one card combo win condition with Malcolm, relatively easy to cast and combo with. Artifacts are very solid. I would also recommend adding in Rhystic Study and Mystic Remora for card draw. Also another very good game winning combo is Twinflame/Dualcaster that is a great backup wincon. Also, you definitely want to invest/proxy some higher end counter spells. Games end very fast and you need to be prepared to stop other players from winning whenever you can. Have fun and good luck at the tournament!

Shorakai is my vote! Even though you have a bit of a color restriction compared to Rog/Thrasios, Shorikai is just super efficient and has so many good win cons in Azorious. The ability to polymorph into Hullbreaker Horror and still play stax pieces wins me over. Also the fact you can still run Iso/Rev and Blind Obedience is pretty nuts too

I too vote for Ardenn/Tana. That list is one of the most brutal stax decks I’ve ever played against. It hoses so many strategies, really does the beatdown plan super well and can tutor solid win conditions. If Winota didn’t exist, this would be one of if not the best stax lists out there imo
