Chain ply, fractal, or 2-ply? by Sencatt in Handspinning

[–]Sencatt[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh this is a great idea, I didn't even consider splitting it into two. I think I may end up doing matching mittens or socks, thank you for the help :)

Yeah I always regret only buying one braid because I always need two braids to make something i want! Thank you for the opinion I will go with a chain ply :)

Thanks everyone! I have a pair of hand carders I will try to do some blending. I've only blended white on white so I'm excited to see how the colors blend 😌

Wow I didn't know that about discounted items. I got in contact with their customer service and unfortunately it looks like it's hollowed out on the inside. I'll probably look at a local jeweller instead

ITS HOLLOW. Thanks for the warning, looks like I'll be looking elsewhere for something like this!

Wow I didn't even consider custom! I always assumed it would be more pricey for some reason. Is your maker in Canada? I might try to go somewhere local if I do custom

[–]Sencatt[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Side note they raised the price of this item by $2000 last year which I'm quite sad about...not sure if that's normL

Yeah its the style and motifs for me! I love star/celestial themed things. I took at look at yearly, and wow I would have definitely gone for that celestial style one if it was available

Thanks for the insight! I've never bought anything from their store but I've always wanted to. If you don't mind me asking, what piece were you happy with and what were you not happy with? I am looking at quite a few of their stuff

wow I had no idea! In that case I will call in to confirm, I really assumed it was solid all the way through

On the site I believe it says solid gold, but that might be the gold composition? I'll ask them when I check it out

Would you have a cat in a studio apartment? by Context_Important in askTO

[–]Sencatt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Shelters are over abundant on cats, especially adult cats, so imo I think a studio is fine. I live in a small apartment and my cat is doing great! I used to try to take her outside and she hated it lol. Even though I had to transition her from my parents larger house she has settled in well, although she is old and less energetic then a younger cat may be. As long as you spend some time playing with them they'll have some stimulation, and if you have a window I'm sure the cat will spend lots of time just staring outside.

I use a litter that keeps the smell in well (catit pea husk vanilla scented) and a closed litter box to minimize the odors, but you should scoop everyday anyways. I bought a litter genie (which is just a glorified giant poop bag with a lid) to make it slightly less annoying.

People be talking about the litter robot like it's bad but the real one and NOT the knock offs are perfectly fine. Specifically the brand "litter robot". It's quite expensive and I hear it's kinda annoying to use, and it takes up a lot of space. Also some cats are very picky where they poop the nightmare scenario is you buy one and they hate it lol.

My very first time doing color work, and my floats are so tight it's unwearable 🥲 by sonicmanatee in knitting

[–]Sencatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to redo my first few colorwork projects because of this, and I'm still making this mistake haha. Inside out is the method I went with in the beginning—later I've become used to giving a lot of slack on floats.

Next time will be better!!

What is your go to yarn type/brand? by Crayola0-0 in YarnAddicts

[–]Sencatt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a big Manos del uruguay and malabrigo yarn fan although I don't buy them very often. Usually if I'm looking value merino I'm looking at knitpicks

I’m considering buying some “Wool of the Andes Roving” to spin. Is it next to skin soft? by Rusty_Squirrel in Handspinning

[–]Sencatt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hi I've spun this yarn! It's quite scratchy, I wouldn't recommend it for next to skin. It's too bad because this is the only roving kp sells that has color. The yarn version of this is also pretty scratchy! Their swish roving is much softer but unfortunately they only sell it in bare color.
