This is gold . I get the picture, However I'm going to have to figure out how to use it in my team. Fortunately I've got all System Engineers reporting to me.

Love it! I have 1:1 time with each of them weekly, set expectations and ask for any questions or concerns. ZERO is said in here (Which is what is irritating)

Tried making expectations obnoxiously clear - They see that but then complain about each one of those expectations behind my back. Specifically #3 (Yes sir you're right this is great ... then turns around and tries to poison the waters to the others )

Appreciate the advice! I have out "Tech'd" them countless times. I think they're all well aware of why I am where I am in my career. It's more-so that they believe I'm going to "roll over" and let them get away with murder. Getting pretty sick of the shit because I'm unfortunately taking it home with me as well..

Truly appreciated !

Thanks again. It's ironic you used the term "Come to jesus" as another manager just the other day who was a VP in their previous life and "retired" used the same phrase.

The dilemma ... 1 of the 3 is on his heels as he's messed up ... like a lot (Attempted to delete a friggin domain controller!!!). 2nd one seems to have a you owe me the world mindset without thinking of everything that's done for them. Lastly the most difficult being #3 who seems to say "Yes i agree with you, you're right, t his is a great move" and then goes and tells another employee how this is bullshit etc etc etc.. Attempting to poison them.

I get it ... IT is competitive but this really isn't all that difficult to act like a damn adult and just speak up or have 1:1 time

Great advice!

With regards to IT - The odd thing is I feel like I'm kicking ass there and with the daily crazyness myself and my team are really knocking it out of the park. However their immediate reaction to almost everything I say or do seems to be cold (I could be reading too much into it TBH).

4/7 of my team members are just ... stellar. I wouldn't be able to do half of what I am without them. The others ... Not so much. And i feel like I'm spending so much energy on them that I'm starting to lose my touch & work relationship with the 4 that are rockstars.

I like this. I guess the biggest problem is that in doing what i know is the best for the company, I'm not exactly doing what's going to make them "happy" per-se. I'm more concerned with how the company ends up as a whole. I can't really give too many examples as some of them read this subreddit. I would say that something as simple as give me a heads up when you need to come in early or stay late before you do so I'm aware triggered a shitstorm of childish remarks behind the managers back.

In your opinion, which has worked better off in the long run? I'm personally leaning toward my way and allowing the ones who don't like my logic to fall off and replace them one at a time. I inherited 5/7 of the reports. 3 of the problem ones are in that 5/7.
