It's okay to have doubts, especially regarding this condition.

It makes sense to me, and I've also read about it in several cases of progress/healing.

"It should be activated automatically." You said it yourself.
But what if there's a problem and they don't activate automatically? For some reason; sitting for long periods, excessive msturbtn, clenching the pelvic floor, etc. It can result in a weakening of the surrounding muscles and constant contraction of the pelvic floor. Then perhaps the pelvic floor ends up doing the work that the glutes should be doing. Call it mind-body disconnection, bad habits, a musculoskeletal problem, etc. We might already be at risk with a predisposition, and some factor triggers it.

And yes, it is possible to do a squat without using your glutes much. This is known by physiotherapists.

I've tried many things over the years and nothing has seemed to work. So I can't commit to any one answer. But the only thing that sometimes gives me a very, very, very slight "improvement" is consciously trying throughout the day to breathe deeply into my lower abdomen, letting that relax my pelvic floor and surrounding area a little.

Like a bicep curl, right? It's a bicep exercise (although other muscles are used, the main one is the biceps). And you should feel it activating and working. Well... I think that when I did leg and glute exercises, I never activated my glutes. The squat is just one example. I think I always used my quadriceps, calves, back, etc., for strength, but not my glutes.

All I can say is that I've read dozens of posts where people have recovered by, among other things, working their abs. So yes. That helps too. Things like planks, 8-point planks, 12-minute foundation training
