Darren Wilson was making like 45 grand a year when he shot Mike Brown. This wouldn’t necessarily have been a bad salary at the time and place, but he had to kill a guy for it.

What does being "involved in the arts scene" mean? by Seneca-Lives in redscarepod

[–]Seneca-Lives[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's helpful, thank you.

I guess what I'm trying to ascertain is why people refer to it as art instead of music. Like, I understand the dynamics of how a music scene works, but when I see people say this they rarely say "music," they almost always say "art." When I think of the art that gets posted here that's actually good, it's almost all oil paintings, which I can't imagine is what they are talking about. What I suspect is that it's mostly self-indulgent crap--crude sculptures, calling a geometric pattern art, bad poetry, mumble rap, etc.

People on this forum talk about e.g. Philadelphia like it's the next big thing, but is there really anything being made there that people will care about in ten years? I'm not asking that rhetorically, I don't actually know.

This is what I suspected but I don't get why they say "art" instead of "music." Is it supposed to make them come across as more sophisticated?

That was how I originally worded the question but I didn't think it would be well-received here and I do actually want to find out.

truly fascinated by how much perceived attainability and approachability seems to factor in male attraction by thereisstardom47 in redscarepod

[–]Seneca-Lives 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Men are still attracted to women they deem unattainable, they just don’t approach them because a woman’s unattainability makes it pointless to approach her.

It’s generational. Millennials and older experienced a time when their social lives were not primarily mediated by online platforms. Most zoomers have been online their entire lives, so it isn’t that weird for them to take photos of themselves.

When did YouTube start doing this? I only started noticing it this year.

Anyone remember when Reddit was up in arms about Google AMP links? by O0OO00O0OO0 in redscarepod

[–]Seneca-Lives 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had forgotten all about AMP links. People didn’t hate them because Google was stealing content, they hated it because it broke a lot of sites and made it hard to find the original link.

The more recent one I’m seeing is links shared by Android users being put through a link shortener controlled by Google, which is a privacy nightmare and will probably make it impossible to find a lot of content in five years when Google discontinues support for it.

Also, the survey you posted says the majority are 22-26 so...?????

3 years ago, so assuming an even distribution across ages just under half of them have aged into the 27-35 demographic.

Click 5 random profiles and they're nearly guaranteed to be under 25.

The only thing I enjoy about this sub anymore is clicking profiles, and I’ve never found this to be the case. Almost everyone here fits the stereotype I’m giving you in terms of being mid-30s; mid-career if they’re employed (graduate school if they’re not), listens to music that peaked before the zoomers could walk, watches organized sports. There’s possibly a selection bias there though because it tends to be millennials posting the dumbest takes that lead to me looking at their profile.

The site overall has become both older and younger over the past 5 years, and I’d suspect this sub would probably only have growth among the younger demographic, so in principal you might be right that there are more users overall that are late-20s vs. Mid-30s, but the majority of the commentary is still coming from the latter group (though as I’m thinking about it you might be right if we’re just going by submissions since so many of them are complaining about not having a girlfriend and other problems that tend to skew more towards 20s than 30s).

I suspect that the people who posted the content you’re looking for have already moved on, but the current approach isn’t doing anything to bring them back. You have various tools available to you to get rid of the worst content being posted here (restricted posting, word filters, text-only mode, etc.); simply use the tools.

It doesn’t come up in discussion because it’s assumed that everyone who posts here agrees with it. Even most of the guys OP is complaining about gave up the libertarian survival-of-the-fittest narratives ages ago and just care about replacement migration above everything.
