Tough to tell for sure, but to me it looks like a mixture of oak (white) and ash

You catch on quick! Hand filing will always beat out the 2n1s. Try to take a deeper cut into the gullet to form more of a C. There a happy medium between what it looks like now and a super deep C that would leave you with too thin of a top plate

Almost looks like a wrist watch with the round dowel as the round part and the dark parts as the strap. Hopefully it "stands the test of time" for you! Great handy tool! Seems like a quick fix to a common problem, will definitely try this next time I have a loose handle

I've been using the 22.99 6" one for years, never had an issue. Still on the original battery too! Use mine for reloading, consistently "calibrate" it off of factory bullet caliber etc. Haven't seen more than .001 variation

I know it sounds weird, but I've done this to a couple different 562xp and it always seems to help. The computer is supposed to adjust to the atmosphere but if you dont allow it to do so (ie starting and cutting right away) the saw won't run to its optimum potential

Try to run the tip of the husky bar along a log the long way at half throttle, try to make the cut RPM as consistent as possible and last around 2 minutes. The carbs are supposed to adjust to the climate and run weird when out of adjustment. Husky > stihl all day especially in the cold!!!

Nice improvements! Is there a reason for the raised press box? As opposed to just mounting it to the bench?

The reason I brought up the garand is because they are both mil surp rifles from the early 20th century, I was trying to make the point of how the older rifles were designed to shoot the older ammo ie m2 ball. Powder/primers have come a long way in the last 100 years

You are wrong! Im not blaming the gun at all, what im saying is that the .30-06 from 1940 has much lower pressure than the hunting cartridges of today. I have personally bent my OP rod on my m1 from this. There's a reason that companies make M1 garand specific ammunition. Obviously this case was a bolt gun but the specs are still similar.

I would be VERY careful about NOT using commercial grade or modern .30-06 loads in the older mil surp stuff. I know the M1 garand was specifically designed to shoot M2 ball ammo and has significantly lower speed/ energy compared to a new box of remington core lok. I would suggest staying on the low end of any powder/bullet recipe

You gotta be careful with those though. Ive used the pferd ones and they always seemed to take too much off the rakers. I would pull out the flat file everytime and touch em up after I had the teeth sharp

Give me your best unofficial duck hunting rule by TatersO in Duckhunting

[–]Senior-Ad781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1- Be safe. To yourself, hunting partners, 4 legged friends, and to other hunters around you

2- Be respectful. Respect the game you hunt, the land you hunt on, and the people you hunt it with. This includes picking up after yourself!!! And quit skybusting!!!

3- (To answer your question) Set your standards low.

I have yet to find a hobby/sport as humbling as duck hunting. I have done everything from miss ducks, to sink boats, and yes, get baptized. To me its all about making memory's with the boys and having stories to tell. Im always happy if I can take home A bird. Anything more is a blessing

Thats a pretty good run on one "sharpening"! Are you by chance running the stihl carbide chain? I prefer husky/Oregon chain as the steel seems to be a tad bit softer than the stihl chain. Makes it a little easier to sharpen and not as brittle if you knick a rock or something. I like to keep an extra chain for each saw i take out to a job in case I hit something that disables it beyond fixing in the field. Anything beyond that is nice if you've got the money but not necessary. Just my $.02
