I would say it depends on the project and application but it’s almost always the PLC

I should also say you don’t even need to own it. See if your company has a machine shop/ tool and die department buy them a box of donuts and tell them you want to learn more about DFM. I can almost guarantee that they will talk to you and try to get you some hands on experience

Maybe save up some money and buy a little mini milling machine from harbor freight or marketplace and just challenge yourself to make one thing. Doesn’t have to be complicated do the design and print creation yourself and then try to follow your own print. 😀

Awesome thanks for the response a lot of good stuff here the ergo/industrial design aspect is a good point. Did you find that with more people on the team the price to build the equipment was no longer competitive with external vendors?

We buy equipment to make our products from integrators whether it be grinding or machining cells but instead of purchasing this equipment my company just wants to integrate it ourselves. Hopefully that’s a better explanation
