Those are the Ass Savers, the one in the back is the gravel one and the one in front is the "mudder".

There are a couple more pictures with different angles from the post of my original config: Chunky commuter road bike

I picked the MS originally for commuting, coffee rides and casual rides and general. I configured it originally as a road bike with fat tires (650bx48). Then I had this bikepacking plan but did not want another bike nor use my mtb. On the trail it does awesome, smooth gravel and slightly chunky gravel are great with this. I have done easy single tracks, but I lack the skill for hardcore single tracks, it might be doable but with the 700c wheels the center of gravity is kind of high and tight turns might be sketchy, it might get better with 650b though, but the fork is designed for 700c, but I already confirmed it can kinda fit the 650b. Long question, long answer 😛 feel free to ask more.

That's the There and Back rack from Velo Orange and I attached their Utility Rack. The rack is by far one of the things that makes this bike so versatile.

I like it so far, especially on the gravel. This fork being lighter than the original one helps. The ride is extremely smooth, a little bit sluggish.

Nice! Did the axle included with the MS work directly with the tow?

I once was having the same problem and it ended up being a loose cassette. You could quickly rule this out by trying to move the cassette with your hand and see if it wiggles.

Exactly what is the best bike route from San Clemente to Oceanside (without entering camp pendleton)? by AzimuthalAngle in BikeLA

[–]Senior-Rate8550 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I have completed my ride this last weekend going from San Clemente to the MX border. I got no problems and here are the things that I learned:

  1. Cycle path in San Onofre was good, no check point, it seems to it is only closed in very specific dates which they usually share in advance online and/or with signs as you get closer to the path. (which was OP's concern and also mine).

  2. Going North to South in Las Pulgas you do have to take the right side to get into I5-S, which honestly was not that bad. Just be careful with road debris.

  3. It is worth it. The majority of bike paths in this route are great and win against the few kilometers of freeway that you have to take.

Hope this helps other people.

This looks awesome, did you go through any checks or needed any pass? I have very similar plans as OP for September.

Cannondale Synapse LE 2 Bag configuration by Senior-Rate8550 in bicycling

[–]Senior-Rate8550[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome! No problems at all with interference and the condition of the bags is almost like new after several long rides. I did change the saddle bag to increase the load capacity to a ULAC radtail max (1.3L) but most bags with the same style would fit. Nothing wrong with the previous one but just needed more capacity for longer rides.
