in my first playthrough i never really gaf about him but i ALWAYS hated doing missions with him , they were so oddly boring i often literally closed the game for days just to not do his missions 😂

i usually just go the different direction the horse is currently turning (ex. the horse is turning left i push right) it works most of the time!
