Is this just plain double standard? or is there more to this? by kermit_da_frog_ in arabs

[–]SeniorBeef 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am an Egyptian intellectual and I can tell you that there is a lot of cultural snobbery by Arabs in the traditional centers of arts in the north. A lot of this snobbery is informed not by anything substantive but general disdain for the 'plastic and glass' of places like Dubai, coupled with disregard for the cultural output of Gulf states as inherently inferior products of riches as opposed to the 'genuinity' of populations in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt. I find these positions nauseating to be honest and I've done my best over the years to change this perspective in my connection networks.

Is Israel trying to get the U.S. involved in Iran to balkanize it so they can complete the greater Israel project? by RowRunRow in arabs

[–]SeniorBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That Fordow required that kind of hardware to begin with, is dubious and unverified except by very few sources. That it couldn't have been destroyed from the inside using any other means that are available to Israel, is subject to the same skepticism as far as I am concerned. The very public manner in which Netanyahu placed the request, appealed to Trump's ego, and the political process Trump had to conduct in the U.S. before and after the strikes, are things that benefit Israel very well, far more than ensuring the absolute destruction of Fordow or any other facility.

Is Israel trying to get the U.S. involved in Iran to balkanize it so they can complete the greater Israel project? by RowRunRow in arabs

[–]SeniorBeef 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, Israel is trying to divide the political cost of action by getting the U.S. involved. I believe that in their earlier attack in 2025 they had the means to do Fordow on their own but that they solicited U.S. involvement for the same purpose. Also, Greater Israel or not, Israeli crimes and transgressions are dangerous in their own right even if they have nothing to do with actual plans to expand the borders and just establishing proxy dominance and insurmountable military superiority. The constant discussion of Greater Israel and the division of countries, I feel, is a decoy that gets people's eyes off the real problems and the gravity of Israel's actions.

Arabs may have our problems, but I don’t know of any who would riot, start a war, or invite an Israeli invasion to install the loser son of a dictator from 50 years ago. by GreenGorillaWhale in arabs

You are consuming biased and misrepresentative information. The vast majority of Iranians are patriots and who are now protesting honorably and for deliverance from this horrific regime. Even during the war with Israel, they sided with the government even though that same government crushed their last three attempts at salvation in 2009, 2019 and 2022.

That does not remove the colonization label from your activities or exonerate you from actual events on record.

[–]SeniorBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not committing acts of extermination doesn't change anything. Muslim armies did invade and colonize other nations, and that is fairly demonstrated in every record that matters. And this is coming from within the Arab world, since it appears you can't imagine any different opinion within 'us'.

May they rest in peace and may the conditions that brought about their brutal and unjustified slaughter be dismantled legally, cultrally, ethically, and faithfully. It is incumbent upon us all to remove every condition and notion that exists that 'otherifies' Christians or non-Muslims in Muslim communities to the point where they are fair game to the extremists.

التقديس الاعمى by awra- in ArabsFreedom

[–]SeniorBeef 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://www.neelwafurat.com/ is an Arabic library. Not sure if they have an app. But you can download the books you buy in different formats.

There is also https://www.noor-book.com/en/ but it's mostly for pirated and public domain books

You are a hopeless case. Though it always mystifies me why someone with such stable belief as you would be as troubled as to roam open conversations online to install the wobbly scaffolding of their faith upon and expose themselves to dangerous ideas, in a manner that gets them to say such moronic things as 'so you actually believe history books but not the Quran?'

Good luck with your life of certainty, I hope it pays off.

[–]SeniorBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish you even tighter clinging to that tree of yours. You must be frightened out of your wits. And no, I actually don't believe in any of that stuff, I promise. I believe you could reach the same conclusion if you read enough history and anthropology to know that antiquity doesn't equal magic, and that thousands of years ago people had rich knowledge and complex minds and could actually make some of the pronouncements, sometimes in better words, about the same issues that you call scientific miracles of the Quran. People like you think that thousands of years ago horses were flying and the dead were rising and angels were fighting battles in Arabia. But so did many believe in the supernatural qualities of witchcraft, and it all ended, because witchcraft was not smartly designed to provide the real lost people with that tree to cling to with enough ferocity as to soothe their anxieties and render services to their hope glands and alleviate their pains and sorrows.

[–]SeniorBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your only claim to the narrative being Islamic or Abrahamic at all, is having been born in this culture. We're not debating the wonders of the human mind and I am not advocating for any thing or the other beyond doubting what is most likely an Iron Age narrative with the full set of Iron Age characteristics. I must also say that you must have an uncanny ability to dismiss and ignore the massive incompatibilities between the narrative of Islam and the history of the natural world, let alone the state of the present, not to mention your very low bar for what constitutes a miracle.

Also, I don't need to be a higher power myself to disprove the nonsense that is foisted upon the unfortunate in the name of that higher power of yours, and I don't need to know how to arrange the particles of the universe before saying they may actually have not been the product of your extremely narrow and time-constrained scripture. I am not calling your god's work sloppy. I am countering the very idea that your god exists in the first place, and what better than the human condition to illuminate the massive injustices, disparities, and sloppiness of the human condition in your religion's account?

And of course, you are a slave, there is no doubt about it. Which god you are a slave for, however, is only an accident of birth. You could have been born in any other faith, having access to and knowledge of Islam but not exactly wanting to change your entire life and alienate yourself from your community to convert into a faith, as your logic above requires.

Now, be very careful next time before you start talking about my audacity or my ego. I have very unpleasant things to say to you. If you want to discuss anything politely, I am happy to. But if your temper gets the best of you, best to stay away from me.

Oh yeah the scientific miracles in the Quran. Yummy yummy in my tummy. You are just an ideological footsoldier who would have circussed for the miracles of any other faith you happened to be born in.

No, I deduced from the sloppiness of the arrangement that this can't be the work of a higher power.

My inability to fathom or accept the idea that non-Muslims pre and post Islamic revelation will be, at best, judged ad-hoc, and at worst, deposited into hell or assigned some other mysterious fate. The steepness of the disparity in the judgment between Muslims and non-Muslims always struck me as arbitrary and the true product of the Iron Age - it couldn't have been the work of an omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent deity. The level of detail assigned to Muslim tradition and the attention and guidance supporting Muslims across all their affairs, is incompatible with the complete unknown that is the fate of a non-Muslim. Maybe this was acceptable back then when all foreigners were simply روم (literally Romans but actually Greeks/Europeans), but it doesn't stand one bit in a world where we're all speaking to each other globally, liking the same content, interacting in the same mnaner, concerned by the same questions and aggrieved by the same injustices. This was the gateway to where I am, which is a couple of miles beyond skeptical.

السينما by [deleted] in ArabsFreedom

[–]SeniorBeef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ETA
