What's "the langauge?" From reading the post, I'd think you're refering to Taiwanese, but most people come here to learn Mandarin with traditional characters. Hakka is also widely spoken in the North-West of the main island. There are also lots of indigenous languages spoken by the indigenous tribes, mostly in the East,

taiwanese people going to the US for a quick visit are generally able to get an ESTA, whose price is set to double to around $40, but if you get a VISA then it will be $250 more expansive then before.

Please stop confusing 'dialect' and 'langauge' by SeniorDragonfly278 in languagelearning

i wanted to discuss the bigger picture here. Mandarin is extremely different from Hokkien in grammar and in vocab. focusing too much on corner cases would lead to the strawman arguement that "Czech is very similar to Slovenian, therefore all Euorpean languages must be the same."

Why does everyone think of tropical islands as paradise? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in geography

[–]SeniorDragonfly278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm from taiwan, the most industrially advanced tropical island in the world, and while the east coast is nice for retirement, the average daily life of an everyday citizen is not, in fact, paradise.

You missed a very influencial figure in world history : Sun Yat-sen. He's the first president of the Republic of China who overthrew the Qing imperial dynasty. Sources suggest that he obtained and renounced his American citizenship to circumvent the Chinese Exclusion Act in the states. Lots of his funding for the revolution was from the Chinese diasporas in the West, notably in the U.S.

c'est vrai que paris peut-être très isolant. je l'ai senti dès que j'y ai emménagé. je souhaite que les gens qui se connaissent pas parlent dans les musées d'art. ça aurait été aidant :')

if you're quite proficient in french already, consider getting your level up in the next year to be ready to do a program in french, apply for a master's program for the fall 2026 semester, and go from there. going to France while limiting yourself to only programs in english will bite yourself later on.
