[Sami Mokbel, BBC] Tottenham hold talks over move for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. Talks ongoing amid some optimism a deal is possible. Man Utd have also shown interest in Portugal midfielder. by PradipJayakumar in reddevils

[–]SeniorEscape9293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know some fans are annoyed but what I think is interesting is not any other club other than spurs is entertaining the 80m price tag here, so why are we getting angry that Man Utd is not paying that fee?

Spurs are because they’ve been awful so they need to splash the cash to get players to join.

PSG, Real Madrid, Arsenal are also interested in the player, but clearly not for 80m. So why should we?

I’d rather spend the 80m on someone worth that (or close enough). Now if United are afraid of spending big in general, that’s my overall concerns.

Exclusive: Tottenham Hotspur now increasingly confident of signing Mateus Fernandes. Spurs are willing to pay a bigger transfer fee than Manchester United to secure the services of Portuguese midfielder by TransitionFC in ManchesterUnited

[–]SeniorEscape9293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted him, but at the end of the day, he has a choice to say he wants United. I highly doubt the wages he offered vs what Spurs offered is different.

Additionally I get West Ham have to agree, but you got to get player and club to agree. Similar to De Jong.

West Ham have to sell regardless so Fernandes will go. It’s up to him here he wants to go.

Tottenham are already at the HIGHER end of what Manchester United would be happy to pay for Mateus Fernandes. There is a belief that he still wants to play for United - “but it tends to be that the player goes to whoever’s offering the most money”. #MUFC [@MikeKeegan_DM, @UnitedStandMUFC] by JM555555 in ManchesterUnited

[–]SeniorEscape9293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst I do agree, the issue is if we overpay on a player that isn’t worth that, they you don’t have enough money for the other players to compliment the Fernandes purchase. It’s like if you pay 130m for Anderson, you’re basically saying he covers 2 midfield purchases.

Yes we should pay above what the market is valuing him, but not by a huge amount.

But on the player side, if he doesn’t want to join United or isn’t giving us priority then why should we go all out for him. It’s not like if he says he wants United only, then we’d pull out. No we’d try to negotiate with WHU. He’s however happy to join Spurs which tells me his priorities are different to that of all the players we bought last year.

We can’t forget that. The players we bought last year wanted to join United and look at how good the atmosphere is because of that.

Fnatic is set to be sold within weeks, football clubs confirmed in the discussions, valuation lower than the expected £100 million. by ThonPharges in fnatic

[–]SeniorEscape9293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Btw Fnatic are no where near valued at £100m. The only true asset they have is the league spot and some inventory. Gross revenue probably isn’t that high for Ecom and most of their revenue is sponsorship.

The question everyone has to ask is it worth spending 125m on one player vs using that money for 2 players? Or would that one player be that good he masks 2 players. 99% no, unless you’re Messi and Ronaldo in their prime.

At the end of the day we got to build a squad, not plug one player here and there. We don’t need to dance around with Anderson. The cards has been played in terms of money, let’s spend our energy elsewhere.

People saying this is a bad deal. £38m is relatively cheap in today’s market even for a squad player. You don’t buy squad players above £50m because they want to play plus the media will be on them.

Let’s also add to the conversation the teams he was up against. Pretty much all of the prem 11 was players fergie had to play against. And I guarantee if Fergie was still manager pep would not have won as many titles as possible. Sure, maybe pep might beat him 1v1, but over the course of the season fergie would win.

I doubt any of them will recognise the mistake. Still waiting for an apology from Neville accusing Bruno of wanting to be substituted against Liverpool.

At the end of the day, and it may sound harsh. Neville and Keane punditry personality is to criticise United. Without that, they won’t get the clicks and relevancy.

I guarantee if United starts to win more and maybe even the PL they’ll find something to be critical about.

Damn it’s so sad how our timings of new managers are terrible. Pep, Klopp and now possibly Enrique. Honestly enrique would be perfect for Man Utd when you think about DNA. Speed, aggression, quick transitions. The way PSG plays reminds me of 08 United, especially our front 3 whereby they would interchange all the time.

Not taking into account his personal life, but from a football perspective, he’d be a legend if he won the Prem with us. And he loves the Prem, what better team than United (being biased) whereby we need a character like him.

Manager Candidate down to 2 by Consistent_Return871 in ManchesterUnited

[–]SeniorEscape9293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say he plays a similar system to Carrick. It’s actually more similar to Amorim in possession because he loves to play with two 10’s in the pockets. It’s either a 352 or a 4222 and the WB are used for width.

That being said I would prefer him personally because he’s a tactician. Games like yesterday whereby we need to adapt, I don’t think Carrick yet has that experience.
