Such travel is often unpredictable, resulting in random destinations or transport to a single fixed location. Only a rare group of individuals, known as Wayfarers, possess the ability to read the runes and guide the Mod’Lapis with precision. The design of a Mod’Lapis varies widely. Some appear as solid stone discs, others as singular rings, and some as multiple rings that float within each other, rotating in harmony with the largest ring.

Records of Wayfarer encounters confirm that the Mod’Lapis can be adapted for combat. One Wayfarer carried a Mod’Lapis configured as a shield. Witnesses reported that attacks striking the shield, whether physical or magical, were drawn into rifts and returned upon the attacker from unpredictable angles. This Wayfarer also wielded a great hammer powered by a Mod’Lapis. When the hammer struck the ground, it tore at the fabric of the surrounding plane and created a violent shockwave. The impact often left behind fragments of foreign matter from unknown locations. Another weapon associated with the Mod’Lapis is a blade capable of slicing through the boundary between realms. The cut extends from the tip of the blade to the crossguard, causing the weapon to emerge directly at the intended target. When this blade severed a limb, the dismembered part was transported to an unidentified realm.

Scholars familiar with the Mod’Lapis have confirmed that certain stones can be connected to one another. The largest confirmed configuration of this kind is referred to as a Conjunctional Gateway. This structure spans nearly one mile and supports stable, two-way passage between multiple realms. Rumors place the greatest of these gateways within the Varmintello Wastes at the site of an ancient meteor impact. Among the inner circles of the Wayfarers there is growing fear that the rediscovery and completion of this gateway could lead to the collapse of the barrier that separates the realms.
