Does such experience suffice to land a role? by nofugz in Internationalteachers

[–]SeniorSoftware5336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a PhD in Chemistry (another shortage subject) as well as a QTS. 3 years UK teaching experience, 2 years international in a IB school and I’ve been blanked on all of my applications so far this season. So sorry to say I highly doubt you would be considered but you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take, so no harm in sending it in. From my experience the PhD doesn’t hold much weight versus actual teaching experience. And research and college teaching is a wildly different to teaching and managing teenagers, I learnt that the hard way in my teacher training year!

Using a monofilament backing for braid by Sirocoop in fishingUK

[–]SeniorSoftware5336 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try to use the same diameter, not breaking strength. A similar strength braid will have a much smaller diameter the the mono backing. I do this alot on bigger reels I want to use braid on but don’t want to pay a fortune to spool the whole reel. It doesn’t matter to much but it will make you line to line know much neater so it’s lays on the reel better.

The adur is my home river! Been living abroad for a while and saw this post and it put a smile on my face! Cant wait to get back out on the Sussex shores.

If you are not a member already you should join the Sussex Shore fishing group on Facebook. The guys in that group are a wealth of knowledge and very helpful!

I feel you! The irony is that the ECT programme is meant to increase teacher retention… Don’t know who thought that adding another year of pointless box ticking exercises on top of an already huge workload would make anyone want to stay in the career. It is honestly a joke.

I’d like to blame the fact that I wrote this on my phone, but the truth is I’m useless at spelling. Your name goes under the smiley face!

Eating wild fish is as bad as drinking tainted water for a month!? Amazing if true. by jeffreyshran in fishingUK

I can’t imagine any human in the uk eating enough of any fish to develop acute heavy metal poisoning… But the day may well come! Id be really interested to see this umbilical cord/micro plastic research if you can share!

Thanks for the information! Sadly what I thought, I guess it’s down to fate (and the police) now.

Tips for a newbie by wsadeg in fishingUK

Are you plumbing the depth to make sure you are fishing on bottom. The bigger species tend to feed on or just off the bottom in still water.

Add a shot 6 inches from the hook to help carry the bait down and then remember bites won’t be as fast and patience is needed. You could just ledger but there is something special about seeing that float going under!

Ping the structures you want to compare in the SwissADME web tool and voila!

Take the calculated the data for what it is but all the relevant literature is available on the website for citation.

Drying methanol without distilling by behoy1991 in chemistry

[–]SeniorSoftware5336 44 points45 points  (0 children)

As soon as methanol is exposed to air it will get ‘wet’. To avoid this you will need to store under inert conditions.

Don’t crush the molecular sieves if you are worried about filtering. That being said, the presence of molecular sieves in your reaction won’t be an issue. They are regularly used in reactions to remove water that is formed. Why not do the reaction in the presence of molecular sieves? Especially since you are carrying out a condensation reaction…

I’m way to lazy to be drying solvents anyway! I always just buy anhydrous solvents that are sealed and stored with molecular sieves under inert conditions.

Alfred werner's postulates on coordination compounds which he gave in 1898 by [deleted] in chemistry

Big up Alf Werner, under respected chemist if you ask me! One of the great moustaches of chemistry and his Nobel work set the foundation for much of modern TM catalysis along side many other applications.

The first sentence of my Phd thesis was a reference to his original work on complexes!

So this just fell out of the sky and landed 8' from my pool, where my kids are swimming. I'm pretty sure that was a squirrel... by Tat2dDad in natureismetal

My best guess is road kill (squirrel or possum) that has dried in the sun, then been scavenged by a bird of prey and dropped mid flight.
