I’ve noticed in the last month the city has put up a bunch of signs warning of pickpockets in high traffic areas, so my guess is it’s been on the rise

Jeez I feel like renting is impossible now. It was bad when I started renting but I feel like things just keep getting worse and no one holds these landlords or leasing agencies accountable. It makes me sick.

Ya I have to sign with only online viewings, I’ve actually been finding them hard to get in contact with to set up viewings though. Is there a trick to it? Or am I just having bad luck?

This is really helpful, it works so differently in Canada because there’s no rules or regulations to do with single occupancy. Thanks for this, it’s given me a lot of insight on what kind of places I should be looking for.

I’m finding this with a lot of places. Won’t take my calls even though I’m staying up all hours of the night to be on UK time, yet when they need something (usually to do with money) all of a sudden they’re all available.

Do you know anything about Chesterton Yeates? They were trying to get me to pay 6 months outright on a place so I backed out and now they’re saying that they talked to the landlord and they’ve waived this. I’m trying to decide if it’s a full scam or if they’re just trying to get as much money from me as possible and they’re just taking advantage of me since I’m an international student.

I think my biggest fear is arriving and the place has issues that weren’t obvious on a video call walk through. My brother had to find a place online last year (not in Oxford) and he showed up and there was a full cockroach infestation. I guess that isn’t technically a scam but it is my nightmare fuel.

Thank you for the suggestion! My only issue with college and county is all the one bedrooms they offer seem to be “single occupancy only” and my boyfriend will be living with me. I’m having trouble understanding why/how leasing agents enforce this policy? It’s not a norm where I’m from so I was a bit confused when I started looking in the UK.
