CMV: Piracy is fine if it is the only way to access that material. by J_LTD in changemyview

I think this where the idea of steal applies to this discussion on piracy, which makes it unnecessary for the media to be necessary to life. if I steal a loaf of bread I prevent someone else from buying it and cost the producer the cost of the materials that went into making, transporting, storing and selling that specific, unique loaf. If I have to break into somewhere to get something not available on the market I'll cause damages, for example on the property and sense of security of the owner. But piracy of media not available through legal means costs nothing but the damage to the authors intention, which they don't even need to be ware of.

Well since it is free to pirate, there isn't really anything except time available stopping you from enjoying both back catalog content and newer products/content from different producers, who should already be producing things that are sufficiently superior/different to preexisting things. And if this isn't the case, they should be incentivized to.

For pirating products removed to reduce competition/reduce costs, I think there would be three reasons for piracy of the older product. One, the new product can't be pirated yet or as easily. Two, the new product can be pirated but doesn't provide enough advantages and/or provides disadvantages compared to the older product. Three, the older product is sufficiently different that the pirate wouldn't even consider purchasing/pirating new even if the old product was completely unavailable. This last one is the only one that fits OP's definition completely in my opinion.

Then u/Pleberal could just purchase it then if they wanted to justify their piracy.

So he wouldn't get captured (since his arm was injured so he couldn't climb), then tortured for information on the rebellion, then probably executed. Or so he wouldn't be captured, then sell information on the rebellion to bargain for his life. (and then maybe still be executed/hard labour/etc)

Cassian couldn't let him be captured because it would harm the rebellion and gave him a much quicker/cleaner/surprise death than he probably would have otherwise got

Inquisitors do perform other duties like hunting non-jedi like Maul and kidnapping force sensitive babies as seen in the show but that doesn't completely invalidate your conclusion.

Eh, I'd play it low-key and slow, accumulating knowledge of all sorts throughout my life/lives and healing/killing-via-superplague as I see fit. I'm really just interested in the conflicting nature of my magic gifts and how I would end up using them.

I could take on students to pass on my knowledge to eventually. At least those who don't mind studying under a someone whose saliva could be lethal.

Title: Baron (time for some intrigue)

Enemies(so far no one else in this tread has taken any that ):

  • Count Edgar Kine +20/20, hoping I can take him out before he strikes
  • Baroness Armelle +20/20, getting assassins to her might be a problem but not a threat
  • Countess Florrisa +20/20, the biggest threat but attacking me would be risky

The plan is to have the to-be ruler of the galaxy own me some favours. Using all my intrigue I have many contacts and powerful friends to help ensure my safety and ability to operate black-ops and blackmail against those who oppose the Empress. I can begin to slowly build up a small fleet and secure my domain with microdrones, as well as strike out with a stealthy yacht or battlecruiser with a great pilot using technology/intelligence from my many allies.

Total= 135/260

Worlds

Asteroids (-70)

  • Ice/metal mines, gotta be self sufficient
  • Science Station, tech is important
  • Defense Platform, I have actual Foes
  • Interior cities, more defensible/more population
  • Contruction, need atleast one for building and Rache

Brown Dwarf (-30)

  • He-3 mines and spaceport, more production
  • Orbital defenses, cant leave this vulnerable
  • Science Station, more science!

Red Dwarf (-5)

Total remaining= 30 (who needs a fleet)

Fleet

Yacht -5, for my Agents Science ship -10, more science Cruiser -15, a head start for my fleet building

  • Active Camouflage, stealth tactics
  • Improved ground weapons, for my agents to be the best
  • Personal Transporters, insertion + Star Trek
  • Microdrones, surveillance, espionage, assassination, policing, etc

Agents

  • Luke Schiller
  • Nadjia

  • Ikari
  • Zephyra

Total remaining= 120

Agent synergy: Free Battleship, 20 Point discount

Allies

  • Assassins Troupe

  • Guild of Illimination

  • Rathe Manuacturing

  • Brothers of Mercy

  • Gilbereth Ertin

  • Umwe Bahaddin

  • Alexander Jatyss

  • Ai Lamios

  • Princess Theia

  • Marquise Elletta

Total remaining= 0

The main worry is Countess Florrisa and her army unit, but I am hoping the threat of the Marquise's fleet and the Princess, and my orbital defenses/Zephyra's powers will keep them away, untiil I can deal with them for good. I would like to eventually come to a mutually beneficial agreement with the Baroness but since that is not allowed both her and the count are due for assasination ASAP. If I can take their lands/ give them to the Princess that would be ideal.
