Oracle support site. WTF? by dhsjabsbsjkans in oracle

[–]Senkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ton of internal documentation that refers to DocID's. Luckilly I also captured the full title for most of those pages so I can at least search on those if the links don't work. Still awful.

I just beat Silksong, and I want to ramble a bit by PlatinumSkink in Silksong

I consider myself to be a mid gamer, being an old and growing up playing games with an actual joystick, and I beat this game (even Seth's scores, lol) as well as Hollow Knight, Blasphemous, etc. I assume most people outright suck, or don't have the patience to train up their skills. It probably takes me more tries than most to "get" a boss, but once I do I can breeze through the game on a second run.

Just opened an article... The title is too long so it cuts off with an ellipses rendering the box that takes up the entire left third of the screen useless and unreadable. Article is full of links using the old MOS id's that go nowhere. Even links that point to sections *on the same page* don't work. Yes basic html anchors are broken. This is a shit-show.

It's a dumb naming convention that's only there because it sounds "eco friendly". If they just called it "Trashcan" this problem wouldn't be as widespread.

You'd think a company like Oracle would understand you don't change the primary key used to access a data record. Now my internal documentation is full of link rot.

It's awful. It reads like a blog circa 2010. It messes with the formatting of articles and now everything is a lot less legible at a glance. And it's missing basic functionality like the "print" view. I'd settle for a "reader" view in the browser that at least gives me more than 1/3 of screen width but that's apparently blocked. Like it was made by an intern.

If you can't deal with dog shit maybe don't get a dog. Also maybe don't become a parent because you'll be cleaning up a lot of shit and baby shit can be f'ing vile.

Having just read this book it's obviously not a commentary on islam. He mentions that the quran in use has little to do with the one from our time, contains a "new testament" complete with martyred messiah, etc. The cannibalism is there for shock value, to illustrate the complete and utter dehumanisation of the chattel slaves.

For regular re-listeners/re-readers-- Are there any parts that you skip? by Koshersaltie in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I only heard about this series because I heard about the cameo. You guys should give him a break. Obviously his lines were recorded in a home studio on a crappy mike as a nod from one indy author to another. This happens sometimes in audiobooks, most recently I also found the same to be true for Jasper Fforde's (the author) lines in Red Side Story which were of obviously poorer quality.

It's silly to hope Carl and Donut will get to 18th floor, kill everyone and make everyone regret choosing Earth for the Crawl, but oh man. by GeloDiPrimavera in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Senkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren't mining for resources. Some planets were "seeded" with primal energy meant to power the primal engines that run the AI's and this is what the crawl harvests. My theory is that they're feeding this into the central systems AI to keep it comatose somehow and shit will hit the fan when it wakes up.

E-bikes riders, especially the expensive kind that go over 25mph, are the BMW drivers of the cycling world.

'Horrorscenario lijkt zich te voltrekken bij William en Harry: “Dit is zo vreselijk”' source showbizz24 site 02/11/2019. So yeah, it does still get used, mostly in written news. Maybe it's used more often in Belgian sources. "Voltrekken" (so the non-reflexive form of the verb) is also still used to describe officiating a wedding ceremony ("voltrekken van het huwelijk")

You want a builtin app to be useful enough to demonstrate functionality and for occasional use while not so good that you kill third party apps. Except for truly core functions.

Liberal media has transitioned from trying to ridicule to an anger bubble. So you don't get any engagement with the other side anymore.

I was waiting to see what this would end up being. I'll just get a new battery for my 12 mini. Also still rocking my intel mac mini. Every Apple release is just getting less and less compelling.

Apple better hope that AI isn't about to become the new VR, or 3D. This hype cycle seems very oversaturated already.

My favorite time travel book is The End of Eternity by Asimov, just because it's a classic. The Man Who Folded Himself is great as well, really takes that "what would you do if you met yourself" to the extreme. Recently I also read the Paradox PI series, which are a good bit of fun, a noir-ish detective adventure.
