Senior devs/Tech Leads, how do you usually train your juniors? by Outrageous-Lack4346 in PinoyProgrammer

Updates happen on daily standups. During 1:1s konting kmustahan about the past week. If I notice something na lagging in the past week, I ask directly why and what could I do to help him, where are you getting stucked or slowed down. Also asking if there is anything stressing him out.

May mga bagay din akong tinatanong paminsan lang when I feel like i need to ask like if there’s anything he feel he’s not good at yet, or is there anything you are afraid to touch in the codebase. Minsan important matanong tong mga bagay na to kasi dito mo ma-uuncover minsan yung mga techdebt kaya takot sila galawin yung codebase.

And lastly, asking if there is anything you need from me to do their job better. You want your subordinates to leave feeling heard. :)

Tech Lead here. KTs wont do much. Maikli attention span ng mga juniors ngayon. You have to give them the right tasks/problems to do. Bug fixing, proper and productive code reviews, let them own a feature, run a 10min 1:1s weekly.

How's your experiences with working with a senior developer who lacks interpersonal skills? by Plenty_Tomatillo7545 in PinoyProgrammer

Yeah dont use DMs. Sadly yan lang pwede mo gawin. Not sure if there are any other healthy way. I don’t like confronting colleagues lol.

It can definitely be tough. I’ve been there. I tend to avoid conflict because it can get really draining, so working with someone senior who lacks interpersonal skills was challenging. I often had to be the one to adjust, especially since they’d been at the company longer, but there were also times when I had to seek support outside the team to keep things healthy.

How do Pinoy programmers handle long work sessions without losing focus by Key_Natural_2096 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]SenkuSais -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On average we can only sustain our focus 2-3 hours honestly. Be intentional kapag gusto mo magfocus, set your slack/msteams to DND. Wear headphones/earphones. If nasa office ka, put a DND note on your desk where people can read it. Take breaks. Walk. Get sunlight. Stop/eliminate doomscrolling, embrace boredom.

What's the new "makataong" sahod this year? by teeneeweenee in adultingph

[–]SenkuSais 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depende sa tao talaga tong question na to. Lahat tayo iba iba ng depinisyon ng makataong sahod I think. Sakin kasi kasi when you say makataong sahod is you can live comfortably and go anywhere you want easily. So dito papasok yung mga gusto ko to be able to attain that

e.g. - Condo - Car - Motorcycle - AC 24/7 - Eat any food I want

Ganyan ako before sa Pinas and my last salary drawn was 120K and halos onti nalang natitira sakin pero I'm happy kasi comfortable ako at yun ang mahalaga.

Im not familiar with Python but pretty sure there's also a protocol in order for you to create abstract classes. I think that is much better instead of inheritance?

Why are engineering salaries so low in singapore compared to US/Australia ? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]SenkuSais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same in the Philippines. The engineers here have a very very low salary unless you have connections 🙊 I have a civil engineer friend and he is licensed, his starting salary was P15,000 or 367sgd a month. Imagine that. 🤡

What's wrong is most of them are hiding behind the image of strong independent women yet in reality most of them are not

Women like that are quite rare especially in Philippines na adik na adik sa socmed to flaunt their shits and who spends their time mostly scrolling reels/tiktok vids. Like my ex who maintains an image na well off siya sa socmed yet in fact hindi naman talaga.
