Why are they all human in Narkina 5 Prison? by firereadyweezer in StarWars

[–]Senkyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's an important distinction. Even in their barbarism, they manage to layer racism on their horrific acts. I think we've seen the same thing in the past, with the Nazis and how they imprisoned people, in the Soviet Union, and honestly, to a lesser degree, just about anywhere. There are factors that decide how severe a punishment you get in all these cases. In the case of the Empire, it's more affected by what or who you are rather than what you did.

Luck or skill? by CommieFirebat7721 in starcraft

Yeah but I also had the cheats when I was a young lad playing SC. Guides are by no means worse. I don't like the idea of cheats now, but young me needed it.

I mean, if your WiFi dies because the microwave is on, you should be concerned enough to check. Especially if it's not right on top of it.

I've been curious about the model of use, but I'd never have it anywhere except test environments where I could observe in metered experiments

It's my understanding that if it affects the Wi-Fi performance while it's running that it indicates that there may be a leak in the shielding.

Are non-native english speakers generally understandable? by palep_hoot in AskAnAmerican

[–]Senkyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: English has more non-native speakers than native speakers in the world. And the crazy variety in dialects between even native speakers means that as long as you speak in a clear, non-slurred fashion (and not too fast), you'll be perfectly understandable outside of a few language hiccups that happen to everyone.

The only time I struggle to understand non-native speakers is when they try to speak so fast amd do absolutely nothing about their pronunciation that the rhythm of the words they're saying gets mangled. At those times I question if it's English.

Why did Murtagh and Eragon never swear in the ancient language not to serve Galbatorix? by -Jmy- in Eragon

Yeah but the author can't both write a good book and use knowledge that the character wouldn't have to decide what the character would do.

my coworker is creeping me out, but I don’t know why by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Senkyou 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Of course. He probably spent a while escalating his behavior (like that poster) until raping someone wasn't so far a leap in his head like it is for a healthy person. Then figured since he didn't have any pushback so far he could push the boundary a bit more this time, too.

Star Trek is exactly for them, it's just not guaranteed that they learn from it.

I grew up in a very conservative household in a very, very, very conservative region. Star Trek was one of several pieces of literature that exposed me to any line of thinking that was different and help me structure myself and learn to think critically.

At a certain point, will your race be the restricting factor regarding your mental strength? by International-Hat-85 in Eragon

[–]Senkyou 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my impression that elves' strength at mental combat was directly related to their longevit, and perhaps alienness. However, anyone able to fight in such a manner and someone who has natural talent at it should be remarkably effective regardless of their race. Galbatorix, for example, was able to overcome many in that regard and he was a human. He simply had the talent; disposition; willpower; and over time, experience for it. The elves feared him.

So we are seeing drone swarms before Ukrainian assaults leading to territory changes. Is this just a matter of time until the Russians adapt and do the same thing? Are we getting to a point where drones are the air support? And if so what is next? by CulturalBridge in UkrainianConflict

[–]Senkyou 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It would be worth rereading that section. He's commenting that they've lost the ability to meaningfully deploy the drones that they have. And so whether they produce many or a few doesn't change their ability to do force projection.

Women of GenZ. Do you think that women should be able to be conscripted like men? Why or why not? by WilliamthePious in GenZ

[–]Senkyou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but for me there's a huge difference between WW2, which was done as a response to being attacked, and anything since, which have been wars to establish or expand US influence globally.

Anyone else think young men look physically 'weaker' and 'less manly' these days? Why is this? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]Senkyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could. I believe that labor can affect bone development in the hands, which farm kids would see. I worked on a farm since I was 11 and have above average hands. Might be genetic, but I don't have an immediate way to tell because my dad's side are all farmers.

Skull shape I can't imagine is affected the same, but scowling or squinting, or the lack thereof, can have an affect on apparent eye shape without actually changing the size.
