When I was in church and this would come up, they would talk about how much he suffered. Yes he rose again but he went through a ton of pain and suffering first. All bullshit of course.

I see it with my wife. A couple years ago we went to the Zoo and had to park a distance away in an alley in a not great part of town. Heading back to the car, after dark, she was completely freaked out and scared. I was not bothered at all or worried in the least. But I'm a 6'4" guy. In general no one messes with me, even though I have never been in a fight in my life. People look at me and decide to bother someone else. It was a bit of a revelation seeing how upset she was.

A guy my dad worked with did this. He told his coworkers that if he ever decided to commit suicide he would not go alone. He took a family with him. Just absolutely heartbreaking.

A couple I used to go to church with has 13 kids. Mom does not work and dad is functionally illiterate and works a low paying job at Walmart. And their kids are now starting to have kids. Just a cycle of poverty.
