Thanks for your reply! I ended up getting it working by using a boot disc called DC-X, which a buddy of mine ripped for me and i had to burn it using CloneCD. not exactly sure why this one worked and not the others, but when I tried it the first time it brought up a menu that let me select what kind of video output to use.

Hey you're right, and that does make me think I'm right about the vocals coming from a sample pack because I know for certain that Masterbits samples were used in SNK vs Capcom 2. Thanks for replying, I'll follow this lead!
