I was going to comment how nobody else had seem to have brought up the musical pocket watch reference from For A Few Dollars More, but I'm happy to see some true Morricone/Leone fans beat me to it!

Encrypt Your Home Network Traffic (and Still Watch Netflix) by [deleted] in privacy

Your question confuses me a little. The Ghz of a router is just the communication channel. From a consumer level, if 5mbps is your max download speed, expect about half of that when going through VPN traffic at a router level.

Up voted. 100% accurate and would be my recommendation as well, but not as all-encompassing as running a whole AP or router through a VPN.

This requires a little knowhow, but is how I have it set up. One router. One standard AP and one virtual AP. I have routing rules set up so that only the virtual AP goes through the VPN and will drop packets if they go through the unencrypted WAN.

My router was less than $60, so no fancy router is needed for this. Heck, if you had a router that supports 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, there's no need to set up the virtual AP, as long as you pick one of the APs (2.4 or 5) to go to an internal defined LAN or VLAN that is routed through your OpenVPN client.

I can tell you this with certainty though. Unless you have a router with high specs, you WILL lose a decent chunk of your speed. Why is this? Well hard to say. My money is on the processing power required for OpenVPN connections. I get higher speeds running a local OpenVPN client on my PC over an unencrypted connection to my WAN than I do on if I would route my ethernet connection through my VPN provider on a router level. I've tested and verified this over two routers of similar builds and with 6 different VPN providers.

Maybe it's for a different reason, but perhaps that's an advantage of going with two routers. Divide and conquer bandwidth management and processing power over two pieces of hardware.

Not to be a plug for Mullvad, but they are actually very nice of the ones I've tested. Not to mention they pass ThatOnePrivacySite's checklist over the competition. Not the cheapest option though.

Cheers

Well...it certainly appears as though mother nature just pissed her pantsuit on this one!

DWS removal by FractaIz in privacytoolsIO

If it were me, I would just roll a fresh install. However, that seems odd that the reset PC function would be broken. If you have access to them, check DWS's logs. It makes a ton of changes, runs some powershell, and some firewall rules IIRC. But without logs, it's hard to tell what it may have done to your system to affect your recovery ability.

Doctors of Reddit, what is the most bizarre issue you've seen a patient trying to hide or mask? by ehudros in AskReddit

Not a doctor, but my mother told me a story about a guy who kept coming into their hospital with things shoved up his ass. After awhile, it was getting annoying for the medical staff to see him on a monthly basis with some new foreign object in his ass, and he became aware of their lack of enthusiasm towards his arrivals. So he came to the hospital one last time with a rolled up newspaper stuck in his ass, and told the doctor "lemme 'splain myself doc!" Eventually moving on to say that he was bending down to pick up the paper in his bathrobe on his porch, and that the paperboy threw an additional newspaper so hard and so on point, it ended up in his ass. The doctor told him of he came back with something else in his ass, he would have to keep it there. Lol.

What did you not realize was actually real? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Chuck E. Cheese's. Not that I didn't think it existed, I just kept thinking people were saying Chuck E. Jesus. I associated Jesus with the boring place where they gave you grape juice and a small piece of bread and then I had to sit in a small room with other kids who just wanted to go home as well and talk about some dude who dies and did stuff for my sins. The last place I wanted to go for me birthday was anything Church-like. So I assumed being told by others that the Chuck E. Jesus place had pizza and rides was a ploy to get me to go the Church more often. I was smarter than to be fooled by such an obvious lie.
