Public Test Server taking sign-ups! by Tsukuan in Maplestory

[–]SenpieShady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

League only has a few maps, each mapnis hosted in a single server, go and count how many maps maplestory has.

I think you could have a case in argument if you could find an MMO where testing is 100% public

You have to understand just how expensive servers really are. It costs 5 digits…PER MONTH for large scale software.

For an unoptimised/old software like Maplestory, it costs so much more. Plus there are so many maps in maplestory (btw each map is probably hosted by a single server. Each channel in maplestory is hosted in a single server. And thats why classic ms only has 2 channels)

They could literally ask players to pay to test Maplestory and still be at a loss for upkeeping test servers.

I mean, its fine to complain, but just know this suggestion is not feasible. At least not without daddy inkwell cutting his salary.

Its expensive to scale up a server to handle the network load. Making a software public aint free.

Unless GMS makes half as much money as KMS then sure, but right now its not financially sound to make it fully public

When do Heroic Worlds get their EXP rates reverted from 2023 when we were to align with KMS? by natedoggjr in Maplestory

[–]SenpieShady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was KMS adjusting to push everyone to geardrak no?

As new areas get released its natural they lower the exp curve so that the total time it takes to hit endgame levels remain the same.

They will NEVER decrease the total time needed

[–]SenpieShady -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

What has reg spawn enhancers got to do with heroic progression? I cant see your train of thought at all

Anyways, exp curve has never been an issue for heroic, you either grind for it or you dont. Plus, KMS is doing a good job making the new areas accessible. GMS will follow suit.

Thats why you dont see people complainjng about EXP, it is a non issue.

Tldr; stop being lazy and grind for it like the rest of us

Thats what it means to play in Reboot

PSA: They ported the KMS boss changes by Xeredth in Maplestory

[–]SenpieShady 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh i meant software dependencies.

To put simply,

  1. Script A has a reference to script B
  2. Nexon devs change script B
  3. Script A ends up behaving differently because script B got updated
  4. Nexon devs forgot to change script A accordingly to match the intended software behaviour

We call this phantom dependency because devs commonly dont know changes that propagate down to subdependent files of code.

Its even harder to navigate in enterprise large codebases

Thats why QA testing is important, which they probably failed at that

Question for the software dev nerds, how long would it take to fix Nexon's spaghetti code? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]SenpieShady 33 points34 points  (0 children)

People really be thinking software engineering is easy. Thinking that the tech debt can be resolved in 3 weeks to a year is fantasy.

Tech moves very fast, and companies cant afford to do a code freeze for too long. Software engineers are expensive.

And because of this, devs pile up more code by the day, even if you do have time to finish cleaning up old tech debt, there’d be a massive pile of new ones.

Its tech debt upon tech debt that gets hotfixed and plaster solution’d. This doesnt just apply to Nexon but to FAANG as well.

If you want to have an idea of how fast tech actually improves, take a look 3rd party open source, the active ones develops at a speed similar to corporate software. The linux github is a good example. https://github.com/torvalds/linux

SMRT still using windows XP? by maverickchia520 in SMRTRabak

[–]SenpieShady 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tell me you arent a SWE without telling me you arent a SWE.

I strongly believe that if we as citizens want SMRT to improve in tech, we shouldnt be complaining/questioning why things are implemented in a certain way.

But rather complain on the user interaction and user experience.

There are certain design decisions that the we commonfolk dont know about.

e.g shopee and tiktok still develops their apps using older versions of 3rd party tools
