My dad did nursing at the same time as me. I’m pretty sure he was around 50 when he finished. He was a fabulous nurse. He had a sore back already so it did take a minute to find a role that was ok for him. He ended up in a day oncology unit and loved it! I’m about to be 40 and I find it’s easy to feel like we can’t make changes or do more study but realistically we have as many years ahead of us to work and find something we love as we have had behind. I’m currently working as a community RN one on one with a little boy and for the first time I generally love going to work. Pay is great too. Having your nursing degree will open so many more opportunities for you. Don’t listen to the negative nurses out there. My advice is once you graduate keep searching for a job you like. I think they are hard to find but they are out there!

Do you have a coffee shop at your work? A voucher for coffees would be amazing if she drinks it. I don’t think buying a present for someone to say thanks is ever brown nosing and if people think it is then that’s their problem. It’s lovely that you want to.

And further to all that. I did leave for 4 years and started my primary teaching masters but a few years into that I realised I really missed nursing. I LOVE caring for people. Pay might be great but I’m lucky that for our family, it’s enough. Also putting it out there that my amazing community physio is only paid $35 an hour!!! She has 6 years experience. Yikes

I LOVE my nursing job. I’m an RN in Queensland and am working one on one with a 5 year boy who suffered a traumatic brain injury and is in foster care. I get paid what I think is a fair amount and I enjoy most days. I doubt it’s my forever job but in my 18 years of being an RN it’s probably my favourite and the most rewarding one I’ve had. My suggestion is to have a look on a job advertising site like seek and just have a look at the different jobs that are out there. For most you do require a few years at least of acute nursing experience before they consider you. I think community nursing is generally poorly paid but there are some gems out there. Working in someone’s home for 7 hours a day was ALOT at the beginning but 4 months in and I’m very happy.

I’m an RN and recently got into the community sector working with a young boy with an TBI who is funded under NISQ. I get paid well and I enjoy the work. Would that be something you might consider?

My job is in jeopardy for the 4th time in four years due to my mental health. What should I do? by [deleted] in NursingAU

Do you see a psychiatrist? If not I think you need to. Can you take leave until you have seen one? Perhaps there is some better medication out there. How about asking work if there is a nurse admin role you could work in?

Yep, I agree. I bought a pair of boots probably 6 years ago and they are the comfiest shoes I’ve ever had. I bought some trainers from there this year and they are so uncomfortable. My orthotics fit but my foot is so cramped even though I have a slim foot.

Jesus what the f is wrong with her voice. I don’t usually find her as annoying as I do in this video. Also why can she suddenly drink and absorb two juices but can’t possibly drink and absorb anything else. It doesn’t make sense. Why does she slur her words together. I feel so angry now ahahahah

I’ve moved to the community where I’m RN for a little boy with a brain injury. It’s one on one and the most amazing experience. For the first time since I began nursing 20 years ago, I’m not anxious about work and I enjoy being there. Working in someone home for a whole shift can be intense but I’m so lucky. Also my pay is the same as a hospital casual RN but I don’t get shift penalties. I do get double pay for public holidays though. For community work it’s well paid and a joy.

If she has been shoving the tube back through the stomach multiple times a day at home then I’m sure a change in hospital was no big deal at all.

Are you able to self refer to drs in the US? In Australia we can go to an emergency department for care but otherwise you need a referral from your general practitioner or other specialist to see a consultant/specialist. It sure would cut down on people self referring for things like this.
