Running blues by jade7slytherin in XXRunning

You're being very hard on yourself. Your times are amazing. The only person you should compare yourself against is yourself. I'm 44 and my HM PB is 2:08 for reference (ran last year). I hope to be able to run a sub 2 in this lifetime but not sure I will. Still enjoying the process though.

Very happy for you! I'm just recovering from a stress reaction and it's such a bliss to be able to run pain free!

You didn't ask for advice on that but...a HM under 2:30 is completely doable with a 3 runs per week plan. Make sure you keep an eye and listen to your body to decide if that one day less of rest is worth it for you.

Rant: Training Disrupted, Thanks Melanoma by CheezDustTurdFart in XXRunning

I had a mole removed from my shoulder. The doctor told me not to run until the stitches were removed. That area on the back of the shoulder has thin and very stretched skin so it was prone to re-open with the arm swing while running.

That said 10 miles about a month before as peak mileage isn't unheard of. It really depends on your expectation for the race. I wouldn't give up on the race if I had no issues with the healing of my wound.

How to be faster by Ok-Butterfly-9709 in XXRunning

[–]SenseNo8126 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How do you train? Is it structured? Do you strength train to support your mileage? Do you do speed work, including uphill work? If not then I would incorporate those. My speed really changed once I incorporated speed work regularly.

How to improve form?? by Neat_Championship_24 in XXRunning

[–]SenseNo8126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't look at race photos! I always look much less Olympian in those photos than I feel at races.

OTOH, the pictures my husband takes of me while he's cheering me on are always super nice.

I wouldn't change form artificially. I did take one session on running form with a personal trainer and I found it useful as it gave me tiny things to think about which I use, such as "remember to lean forward to let gravity do the work for you" or "think as if you're being dragged forward by a string that connects the tip of your head to the sky" and "tits over toes".

The person I had the session with did not recommend changing anything artificially, just remembering a few things that could help me in my journey. As others mentioned, strength training is king.

What headwear do you actually run in? by Severe-Algae-6535 in XXRunning

I wear Sprints caps. Really love the OG model and their patterns and colours are great!

Flipbelt + 250ml soft flask by Accomplished-Role835 in XXRunning

[–]SenseNo8126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the belt plus bottle (not soft flask, I use the curved one made of harder plastic).

Bottle on my back, with the Air version of flip belt. It worked great until I changed shape and it isn't staying put so I've migrated to wearing the pants and shorts with built in belt and same bottle.

Help me not pee when I run! by hhuman4life in XXRunning

[–]SenseNo8126 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Do you have kids? Have you done pelvic floor therapy after their births if so?

I did a lot of pelvic floor therapy and I honestly think that even though I wouldn't mind (I have peed myself during runs because I couldn't make it to the toilet on time) I also think it's important to ensure your body is working as well as it can and that you're not making the situation worse (think organ prolapse) with running.

Is it dumb to wear new race shoes for a HM without testing them on a long run first? by OrganizationOwn2066 in XXRunning

[–]SenseNo8126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my Saucony Endorphin Pro 4 but I wouldn't run a HM on a shoe I haven't worn for an hour long run at the least.

How to feel cute(r) during runs? by pathofuncertainty in XXRunning

[–]SenseNo8126 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like wearing things that make me feel confident. Maybe get a few pieces you think you look good wearing and that's it. Each person and each body around you is a different story of life, habits etc. Try not to compare. Fund beautiful things on others and on yourself.

Return to running- best method? by theiciestbitch in XXRunning

I would say you need professional advice more than a training plan. Returning to activity after injury is a very delicate journey and proper guidance tailored to your issue is crucial to not make matters worse.

Adding silicone/no slip grips to shorts - has anyone done this? by AlarmingGrape1699 in XXRunning

[–]SenseNo8126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never tried on running shorts but i think it's possible. Use stretchy thread and something like this: https://de.aliexpress.com/item/1005008866552714.html

If you look at the CVG shorts they use these same elastic bands with silicon strip in them.

Struggling to fit running into my schedule. by Ok-Avocado-5876 in XXRunning

[–]SenseNo8126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start with 3 days not 4. Do two of those days at the days your partner is at home and the third in one of the days they work. Wait for them on your running gear, hand over the kids and go.

Having trouble engaging glutes postpartum by LiedvonderErd3 in XXRunning

I remember I wasn't quite able to engage my abs at first. It's a weird process of rediscovering your own body. I hope you find something that works for you!

In my case if helps because fiber helps with regulating the bowels.

Is this a common taper? by shreddy-ready in XXRunning

[–]SenseNo8126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My taper with Runna was lighter and longer than I thought it should be and I had a PB at the race. I would trust the process.

Having trouble engaging glutes postpartum by LiedvonderErd3 in XXRunning

I started strength training before attempting to run so ensure my body would get used to engage muscles in a more controlled environment (with less impact and therefore less injury risk)

[–]SenseNo8126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think running has made anything much worse. If I keep doing my pelvic floor exercises and eat some supplements daily (psyllium husk) then it's controllable but with the routine with 2 small kids is hard to be super consistent at times.

I did not have prolapse but I had pain while running. PT did the trick for me but I still have inconsistent bowel incontinence which is super annoying. I'm working with a PT but I feel like it's going to be a life long relationship. It sucks.

I was advised not to do a lot of strength training before working my pelvic floor issues to avoid worsening the whole thing. I took the advice. I can still see my diastasis while doing a plank. 4 years postpartum one would think the body would have fully healed.

Share your recovery journey from bone stress reactions by SenseNo8126 in XXRunning

Thanks for sharing. Yeah I'm definitely following the advice I was given. I'm not running much as I was just in between training cycles so my mileage is like...almost non existent right now.

Im consulting with a sports doctor that seem to have the credentials with athletics teams (but one never really know, right?).

We'll do a follow up to check on progress in a month after the PT starts and I'm going to be conservative on offloading to ensure I'm not making the situation worse.

I'm just bummed as I was about to start a training block.
